Rather than derail the thread I mentioned on it earlier, I’ll post on here.
I am not racist (I know that’s how racists usually start). I have absolutely no problem with controlled immigration.
Here’s my situation.
My mother had been in a home now for 10 weeks with worsening dementia. At 66 (she’s 90 now) she was forced to retire after paying into the system all her life. She still had around £4000 on her mortgage which me and my siblings paid off so she could manage.
I had a financial assessment call from some government official. The “good” news is, she’s only got to pay £860 A WEEK for the next couple of weeks. Mid December, it goes up to £1060 a week.
I mentioned taking the money which we were “owed” out of her account. I was asked if I had any proof of paying her mortgage off. Of course, being 25 years ago, I hadn’t.
Upshot of this is, her savings will be used until they run out, which won’t be long. Then we’ll have to sell her house. When this runs out, she’ll get free care.
I’m honestly not bothered about not being left anything, none of us are, but it beggars belief that folk are being taken better care of than our own pensioners.
There’ll be a few folk on here who may be offended by this view, but in my view, it’s common sense.
It’s disgusting, wrong on so many levels, feel for you mate

SOMB, have you looked at NHS Continuing Health Care? My sister was awarded it after paying for her Care Home for a few years.

BBC News article about Sikh food bank in Luton helping people who have been evicted from their rented accommodation... one couple are now sleeping in a carpark

Sad.

Just decided to have a ride out on the bike, down on roker seafront now and it's beautiful and fresh and hardly no one around. Not good for businesses but having a coffee in peace is what I like
Have you not been blown off in the wind? Or is it assisting South Westerly travel <laugh>

I was on my bike this morning, too, cycling inland from Cleadon to Wearside Farm in Washington, for tea/coffee & toast, including going over the A19 (the second footbridge down from Testicles roundabout), and it was windier than we hoped :emoticon-0148-yes:

The return leg was notably less windy (more sheltered), though, and we thoroughly enjoyed it . . . . it's always good to 'get rid of the cobwebs' :emoticon-0105-wink:
