Sky sports news have just shown Portsmouths next six fixtures, with their opponents badges next to their name.We are of course on the list. But with Hull Fc's badge ! This sh!t happens all the time in the media where our club is concerned. It's not just a ****ing typo,it's taking the piss !
When a channel's entire output is sourced purely in the world of Sport, you would think a little knowledge and team accuracy would go far. Not just team accuracy, Sport accuracy. That makes this situation a tad embarassing for SSN, purveyors of Sports-based News as they are. I don't expect this is something done on purpose, though it is clearly an ignorant gaff. It reeks of laziness. "Summink about playing Hal...think that's them. Says 'Hal' on it. Probably right. Fack it, whatever" - is an as yet unclarified quote direct from the belly of the SSN research team. Don't ask me how I got, it came to me anonymously. Someone needs sacking.
I nominate that annoying she ite David Garrido. He just loves himself. Julian Waters comes a close 2nd as a wet blanket.
Me too, especially when the did the same thing a few months ago by calling us Hull FC. Sad really since the only truthful product of the news is the sport.
I nominate Jeff Stelling. But the sad thing is probably no one else will notice apart from us, but if it was someone like UTD or even someone like TWS or forest they ballsed up with the media would be all over it humiliating sky.
So, who emailed them to point out the **** up? To be fair, some criticise others for always wanting the 'City' bit of our name. This is just one reason why it matters. They see us as Hull Football Club. The Rugby League club of that name is not one that's known outside of its own small circles, so the error is to some degree understandable.
I occasionally refer to us as 'Hull' and get lambasted by the anti-egg brigade. But, let's assume that Sky simply Google the badge. Surely it's a giveaway when a bunch of men in black-and-white hoops playing Rugby League come up alongside 'our' badge...?
That's a daft assumption. They'll just pull the Hull Football Club badge from their files. What would make them think it's not anything to do with a football club in Hull rather than rugby?
That's my point - either they have it on their files, in which case there's been a serious error and nobody is intelligent enough or knowledgeable enough of football to point it out, or they've done something as basic as Google it (hardly professional). I was being kind to them. They've either made the error of thinking we're called Hull Football Club, they've forgotten that a great number of Super League and Aviva Premiership sides have FC in their name (they do play Rugby Football after all) or they've somehow stuck everything connected with Hull into one little file. Or possibly all three.
I think you over estimate the coverage of rugby league. Best we keep insisting on our full name instead of this more recent 'just Hull' nonsense. It is our heritage and not the media's gift after all. So, who emailed them to let them know?
We're talking about the biggest satellite TV company in the country, and one of their most popular channels. A channel that is devoted entirely to SPORT. The confusion is between the badge of a football club that were in the Premier League 18 months ago and are still in the second tier, and that of a Rugby League club that have long been a Super League side. If Sky can't get it right, it is embarrassing.
Some people still call us Hull City FC, which isn't our real name either. It's Hull City AFC. But that's just me being pedantic for you.
That annoys me, but if people refer to us as 'Hull' within the context of a conversation on association football I don't care.
It's among the smaller end **** ups they make, but you're mistaking 'News' programmes for something designed to keep people accurately informed. It's not, it's a tool to generate stories, unrest and discussions that promote the programme itself rather than the content. You only have to watch a bit of soccer Saturday to see the gaping holes in their knowledge of football outside the top six Prem teams and how little that matters to them. Even when they know something's wrong they'll press on because they're almost contemptuous of clubs like us. We just make up the numbers and buy the product. Think of them as 6th form wummers and you'll save your irritation and embarrassment, if it does bother you do as I do and contact them to point out their ignorance and describe how amateur it makes them look. Don't be rude to them but belittle them. But stop buying in to their rebranding of our culture.
theres nothing pedantic in wanting to correct someones mispronunciation / misrepresentation of our football clubs name . for me - Hull or FC is a rugby club Rovers or KR is a rugby club City or (Hull City to an outsider) is the football club. its really easy and only an idiot could get it wrong !
Should they have to be emailed? It is their specific area of expertise (sport) as I mentioned in my earlier post. It's less to do with contacting them and explaining sloooowly and caaaarefully what they've done wrong, it is rather expressing exasperation that a Sports News broadcaster can be that inaccurate. They shouldn't have to be emailed should they? See?
