'They disrupt' - Every word as Lee Johnson discusses Leeds United loss and Antoine Semenyo
    Full post-match press conference.

    Any complaints?

Not in terms of the result. I think we could of got the draw.

We had two chances which I think were big chances. Famara’s open goal where we took the touch and he should’ve just left it.

I thought Matty Taylor’s chance was a good one where he could’ve lobbed the goalkeeper. He was like 15 yards out of goal and he’s only got to lift it.

Normally Matty’s brilliant at that, that sort of lofter. It was a competitive, scrappy, horrible game. I was disappointed with our quality in the first-half but you’ve got to give them credit with the way they hustled and harried, which is what we often do to teams in this division.

Tough day at the office but one we expected to be tough with the quality Leeds have got.

    Thoughts on the goal

Goals get scored. A young lad lost his runner and the goalkeeper’s in the back of the net before the finish’s already taken place. It was too soft and too easy.

That’s where we’ve got to learn, particularly at home. The fans showed some displeasure at half-time, not sure who at. Whether that was the referee or the team.

Might’ve been the referee because there was a few dodgy calls. It’s important that we remain united at home games.

How do you think Antoine Semenyo do today?

I thought he was okay. He performed some individual actions quite well. A couple of times he rolled the opposition player physically. He got into some good areas but we didn’t supply him the ball quick enough.

I think he’ll learn an awful lot from that game. I think it’ll expand his mind to what the Championship is like and how bright you’ve got to be to cope with it.

We’ve got no doubts about his future and we’re looking forward to working with him.

    On Matty Taylor’s impressive cameo…

He got the chance and you expect that. The challenge for quite a few of our lads is to be good from the start. We’ve got a really strong bench and credit to them.

They come off the bench and they perform well in cameos. We’ll need our experience and players like that to stand-up.

Onto Ipswich on Tuesday who got a point away at West Brom today…

Every game in the Championship is tough and Ipswich will be no different. They got a good away point today and they’ve got some good players.

They spent well and big in January to give themselves a chance and they’re not throwing the towel in. It’s up to us to be at out best everywhere - staff, players and fans.

How did you feel Leeds stopped you playing today?

They’re very, very good at it. Their back two are aggressive, on the front foot.

Their midfield disrupt well because of their energy and their application to get tight. What we didn’t do was exploit the weaknesses of that, which is one or two bits of good play and find the space.

That comes with quality and mental calmness, to pick out and execute a particular delivery. That was my frustration. During the week we felt we could expose them on that but we couldn’t get enough love of the ball to kill them where they could be killed.

Disrupting your passing football was one thing they did well…

That’s the word - disrupt. They’ve got quality and they’re very good at disrupting. That’s why they are where they are in the division.

Our issue today was that we weren’t playing the next pass in our head. Tuck it round the corner and get it back.

That comes with the mental calmness. It’s definitely credit to them but something we need to improve when playing the top teams.

    Any injuries or knocks?

I don’t know. I just gave a quick post-game speech and moved on.

How do you feel now that the play-offs are out of your hands?

We’ve got 11 games and 33 points to play for. We’ve got to give our all in all of them.

And we will. I’ve got no doubts about our players and the fact they want to achieve success this year. It’s arguable about what success looks like but we’re in a position to give it everything we’ve got.

Ideally we’ll be the hunter to catch the one, two or three clubs above us. And we’ve got them all to play. We’ve got to keep our best players happy, bright and rested and it’s their responsibility to go and produce the performances we know they can.

    Your thoughts on Leeds?

I can only talk about the two games.

The first game we were in it until the sending off and this game was fairly even. But they were just slightly more at it and slightly better technically.

You can see the style and philosophy he’s trying to play to which is a good sign, but there’s plenty of good coaches in this division and it’ll be interesting to see who plays who in that top three, and I’d love to play Leeds again in the play-offs.

The Diedhiou miss was bad but not many have commented on Taylor’s chance.

“I thought Matty Taylor’s chance was a good one where he could’ve lobbed the goalkeeper. He was like 15 yards out of goal and he’s only got to lift it.”

Everyone moans at Diedhiou but never Taylor. To me whilst I like Taylor he is just not a championship striker. I would like to see him in a Paterson role but then he’s not quick enough. I just think he will be leaving in the summer.

I don't like hearing home fans booing but I think this comment is a bit complacent," The fans showed some displeasure at half-time, not sure who at. Whether that was the referee or the team."

They might have been displeased with the recent performance of our management.

Taylor provides more movement. City played two up and? Their lack of movement made it easy for Leeds running towards goal in tandem metres apart. Easy ride -School boy football. That is a why some are critical of Diedhiou.

Going two up meant Leeds flooded midfield blocked off the passing options to the non existent passing options and City's normally reliable passing fell off acliff for the afternoon.

I never asked for an explanation, only commented what Taylor has to offer.

But thank you for taking the time to explain, what most already saw.

Terse. But it is a reason why some (your everyone) can moan about the contribution of Diedhiou v Taylor is Taylor is more mobile.

it is always [ sometimes ] good to have an elaboration of ones thought process to the answer …
we have 3 wingers ...and we have seen what niclas can do.. Watkins not so and Adel not been fit .. so why not play one or more?
