Currently our performance stats show an average of 58% possession and passing accuracy of 82.9%. Which is pretty good by anyone's standards and you could say belies our League position. However the crunch comes in the next set:

    Total passes - 8294
Passes in own half - 3940
Passes into opposition final third - 881

The total is not at all bad, but "no real cutting edge" when it comes to pressing/catching the opposition out and threatening their goal. Kind of confirms what people are saying in the 'Derby' thread.

It's all well and good weaving pretty patterns and passing. the real stats you want to see are the shots on goal and how many of those were on target. That will show the true nature of the tactics working.
I doubt this season we are one of the top teams in the league with shots on goal and probably worse with shots on target.
Last season our shots, on target and goals scored were up near the top. Our Midfield & defenders out scored a lot of other teams main strikers!!!
The likes of McCormack & Dembele weren't afraid to miss, our strikers at the moment are.
