There is only one Keano; Well technically there were two. One of which was ****.

Enjoyed this read. Brings back memories of what proper footballers should be like.

Why do the young footballers of today not want to emulate what were the epitome of world class players. I dont know about any of you but when we were kids playing football in the park, we all picked our favourite player and thats who we were. I was always Robbo.

Are there no decent players kids want to emulate? or is there no one out there with the talent of the likes of a Robbo a Keane even a Viera. You'd think that coaches would try and mould kids with the right talents into these type of players.

I will always have affection for Robbo as a player as he had it all, but Keane was just a ****ing monster of a human being, a line from the article says he would run through plate glass for fergie and the team. Which sums the bloke up for me. He was the driving force of the side. I'd sacrifice any of our current players to have someone of his ability and ethos back in the team.

Anyone that turns this thread into a he was a dirty bastard thread will be deleted. <ok>

They get money at a young age, unlike 10-15 years ago where they had to clean the players boot etc.

Humans dont come like Roy anymore. Have you seen todays youth, bunch of closet hiding meffs the lot of them.

Can barely tell who is male or female under the age of 21.

I also think Roy would have run through plate glass just for the sake of it, then roared at the end and punched a horse.

the club should hire Roy to walk up and down the touch line staring out the oppositions best players. there would be a line of **** following every step they take.

Robbie Keane should also be erased so that there is infact, just the one KEANO!

I just don't get it why there is seemingly no players that want to emulate players like him. Be a proper box to box midfielder.

Not enough aggression. Society has been toned down so that any form of aggression is seen as negative.

Todays refs wouldnt have a clue what to do with a Roy Keane. Imagine Clattenberg giving those 3 penalties on Sunday if Roy was on the pitch. He wouldnt have dared. truth is, he would have turned down the chance to ref the match.

Vidal is supposed to be a pretty damn good b2b midfielder though. Not sure if he has the fear factor of Roy though. few players ever have.

My eldest Son was an Ipswich Town mascot and got to meet Keano before a game against Swansea managed by a certain Brendan Rodgers in those days! Although I hated Keane for the mess he made of our club, I shall never forget the kindness he showed my lad. He spoke with him for a good 5-10 minutes and took a real interest in my son's football and what he wanted to do in the future. Keane is obviously a very complex character but there is no doubting his leadership qualities and he has one of these force fields, aura if you like, around him. Not many people have that but Keane definately has and he commands complete respect.

I suppose the old school box to box midfielder is a thing of the past, yes you have to work hard and be aggresive looking for the ball but you can't go to ground as often anymore and more is expected when in possession. Work rate has replaced aggresion, technique has replaced aggresion.

As much as I miss those crunching tackles I prefer modern football and feel that we have a long way to go in the UK before we totally embrace the concept of technique over the physical aspects of the game.

I don't really buy into this fear factor thing, it's football ffs, not cage fighting. Keane was good because he was a great tackler and passer, not because the opposition where scared of him:biggrin:

Maybe so but the opposition, referees and Mick Mccarthy were petrified of him.

  17. Keane and Vieira wouldn't survive in the modern game, they'd be forever suspended! they make Suarez look like a pussy cat too!!!

He wouldn't be scared of them though, I don't think he thinks full stop when he's playing.

  19. Oh, absolutely. No way would Suarez be scared of them same as Gerrard never was either. thing is, Luis wouldn't even respect them <laugh>
