and, as is usual, I believe that we are straddling it at this very moment! Let me explain; football fans are fickle, all of us, to varying degrees......I consider myself more tolerant of poor results if i can see definite improvement.....others will already see this season as a flop on the basis that we will not get 4th (or are unlikely to).....I understand this and am tolerant of it; we're all different. Right now, in my opinion, this season being deemed a 'success' hinges on a semi-final win in the FA cup. I have written off our chances of CL football after the Arsenal game and as such, believe that the Carling Cup is NOT enough of a haul to point to and say, look, we succeeded! Note, that I am not saying that we win the FA cup, just that we progress to the finals and close the gap between 4th and us to a respectable number - ideally finishing 5th. Our season would then read; Liverpool bedded in a new team and overcame serious injuries to key players, still managing to win the Carling Cup and reaching the FA cup final/winning the FA cup final (delete appropriately), eventually finishing 5th, only 4 points (adjust appropriately) off 4th place - a far cry from their position 18 months ago! They now look to add real quality in the close season knowing that their new look team will be bedded in and raring to go come next season - they also know that their luck cannot get any worse, ever! If we don't win the semi and our season tapers off, it doesn't have the same feel good factor to it.... Appreciate that everyone will have different views on this; would be good to hear them YNWA
I wouldn't say 6th is particularly disappointing either if the points gap is low providing we go further in the FA cup. It just shows how much more competitive the PL is this year with Spurs improving no end and Newcastle still there or there abouts. We'll improve over the summer and build on this season.
Newspapers don'r write pleasant things about LFC....................................... .........................thwe TWATS
i think the op is right, though perhaps a little pessimistic. (funny me saying that eh rhc) IMO we won a cup and i expect as the season goes on we will improve as we do so by the end if we beat newkie to 6th. its fine... could be better could be worse. a cup was won and arsenal only dream of that.... i honestly think expectations went wild in reds fans hearts and this was wrong. i think next yeat we'll do bette rbut it won't be til the season after that that we really see high expectations justified. I honestly think we all shold stop underestimating the semi... having seen us lose i nthe 3rd/4th round for ages a semi is nice on its own and i respect sunderland and everton enough to see that we'll be doing well to progress so will be looking forward just to the semi. semi = win great, lose it still looks better in the "history books" than losing to northamption for exmaple..... Don;t get me wrong i really hope we win the thing but i am looking just to the games ahead not much else
