It strikes me that a lot of Southampton fans are never happy, bordering on pessimistic miserable gits. I appreciate people spend their time and cash following the lads and want the best but reading some of the threads, you’d think our bubble has burst and we’re on our way back down the league. Some of it is spurious provocative moaning garbage. We lose a couple of away games and it’s all doom and gloom. I think part of it is people, on the face of it, lowering their expectations publicly as a kind of caveat in the event that we don’t succeed whilst secretly believing we will succeed. We’re top after 20 games, which is awesome in light of everything that’s gone on in recent history and it’d be nice to see a bit more belief. Why can’t we win the league?

Think its more the nature of the performances. Drawing away and creating chances, and winning home games was kinda great. Loosing two away on the trot and not creating much has just knocked the wind out of people's sails a bit. Its requiring a mental adjustment perhaps. Thats not to say you that you haven't hit home on a few points jonny shuttle.

People say we had no chances, but we had a lot of corners in the Donny game. At the start of the season we'd have got one from a corner...just not our day.

I really don't agree with the OP on this one. I believe that if Saints won the EPL title, the FA Cup and Champions league in one season, most of the fans would be reasonably satisfied.

No, actually, you are right. Some would still be moaning about the pitiful exit from the League Cup when we pitted our reserves against Man United. ;)

Understandably fans are getting concerned about us losing our number one spot. When you are at the top the only way is down. Would people feel more positive if we had hung around mid-table and had just pulled ourselves into 4-6th spot?

It's not the fact we have lost 2 away games in a row. It's how we lost them, we were awful. I've said before if we had tried and lost I wouldn't mind. Take the leicester game we gave it our best but just came of short. I didn't mind that at all, as I didn't feel it was a waste of cash or of my time getting there.

We will have to judge over the next few games whether it was a blip from which the team have learnt or whether it is an ongoing problem. Obviously the manner of the loss makes a difference to how you view it. I'm looking forward to the Blackpool game (with some trepidation) and hoping that at least our home form remains the same.

Plus the time we ruined our 100% away record with a draw at Anfield. Shocking.

Well I was at the game on Saturday and was sitting in the home team seats with Donny fans and the general opinion was a draw would have been fair result but they obviously were glad with win. We had the possession and tried to play football were as Donny looked dangerous on the break. It showed to me we are lost without lambert and need a backup urgently. Guly worked hard first half but dropped away second half and lallana disappeared. Very disappointed at that. No real bite in midfield,,think the obsession with playing the passing game is great but in some games you need to change the tempo to unsettle the opposition and we just didn't do it,there seemed no sense of urgency,,,still results went for us else where. But I do worry about striking options If lambert out

Yes and alright we had won three trophies, but were we really happy with the nature of those victories?

Considering how things are at Southampton at the moment, I would say that none of your fans have the right to be pessimistic miserable gits, to use your phrasing. When plenty of clubs are in pretty difficult circumstances, us (obviously), Plymouth, Kettering, Stockport, and plenty of others it seems frankly ridiculous that any Southampton supporter can feel miserable. Even if you don't get promoted this season, that's hardly a disaster or worth being miserable about. Be grateful for what you have, many fans would love to be in a position like yours.

No offense meant to anyone, just my views and not saying anyone on this forum is like that either.

Well said Lapras, the moaning minnies obviously have nothing better to do. These truly are great times. Even if we are in the middle of a glitch (which I don't think we are), things are still bloody fantastic!

With such a well presented logical statement; I am left wondering how someone with such clarity of thought could support Pompey! You are quite correct in your assessment and this should [although I doubt this will be the case] make some of the Saint's fans look at our current predicament in a more positive light.

Strewth guys and Gals what ever happened to free thought!! I would have said it would be natural to have a moan about our away form at the moment. It is not the first time we have had the bulk of possession but failed to make an impression. Wouldn't go as far as saying that the fans are miserable gits PL, they are just disappointed gits as far as I'm concerned. As we all are at heart pleased that on the whole at how Saints are doing in the main. There is no doubt that one or two seem to have lost a tad of form. Which lets face it we were expecting.

If you had to buy as many beers as I had to because we lost to Bristol City then you would be moaning about it for months.

I bigged them up and put my money where my mouth was and what did they do?

    They did not even try.

Afterwards I had to buy the drinks for my Bristol City supporting friends all night in the pub. I am now pretty well skint.

Mrs Godders doesn't know about it yet but she will do on Christmas Day when she finds her stocking empty.

So not only did they cost me a lot of money, they cost the lovely Mrs Godders her Christmas present, and they have probably ruined my Christmas as about all I shall have to eat on the big day is cold shoulder.

The lads owe me big time so I am going to put all the change I have on a good win this Saturday with Morgan to score a hat trick. That should resurrect my Christmas.

Well said my northern friend. I felt the same thing in both of the last two away games. When we have played well away from home we've mixed it a bit and been more direct. Of course we miss Lambert - who wouldn't? - but the players seem to have had no plan B in these last two away games. It'll come right. Adkins will make sure it does.
