There's been little to no talk of Theo's contract situation what with it now only having 1 year left? I realise more attention should be on RVP as the captain and best player but it seems strange that people aren't concerned with his situation...are we looking to offload him? Is he looking to leave if so where to...another rival like Nasri? I think a big reason we haven't discussed it is we don't care enough..he once again showed such inconsistency that any good performance was soon after ruined by a terrible one. He featured in 35 Premier League games scoring 8 and adding 8 assists which is decent but not amazing...I personally have faith AOC as his supposed successor and that he will provide us with more on both fronts if he played the same number of games. Problem is we can't go into next season relying on the youth only...Miyachi, Joel Campbell, AOC are exciting but not yet proven,..every successful team needs that winger who can consistently be a threat...we had Overmars, Pires and to a lesser extent Wiltord before...even Reyes had a small purple patch for us. I had hopes Gervinho (4 Goals and 6 Assists) would help but he's been even worse I'd personally cash in on Theo if he won't sign a new deal...not sure who to replace him with but if we got something close to 10M we could surely invest that into someone more productive. * Adam Johnson is highly underrated and with a regular starting spot could be a huge player (6 goals in 10 starts). * Stephane Sessegnon has similar stats to Theo (7 Goals 9 Assists) but is a more well rounded player (IMO)
I really couldn't care less about Theo's contract situation. For the reasons stated above. He's a footballing simpleton.
Every Fabregas has to have his Nasri. But, seriously, no top 4 club is really interested in him methinks. So we should be pretty safe here.
There was a large old thread on this about a week ago with very mixed views. For me, I'd happily keep him. On another note, I'd no say no to Sessegnon but is he a winger? Not saying Theo is mind
I like theo and despite being pretty experienced is still young. He has more to his game than people give him credit for and is steadly learning. People say he is inconsistent and that is true though but he is improving in that respect and is normal for his age forget comparing hin to the likes of ronaldo etc thats rare. If he can display his burst of form on a regular basis we will have some player on our hands.
Maybe, Walcott has made it crystal clear about what he wants to do. Which could be to focus on the Euro's first and foremost. Walcott clearly loves to play for his country and this is his first real tournament in which he will get a chance to play.
I would sell him, yes he's young but he has been with us long enough now and played enough games so the excuse of him being young can’t be used anymore (he’s been with us since 2006!) Song is similar in age and came at a similar time yet he has improved significantly while Walcott has shown little improvement since his time at Arsenal. He is still very inconsistent and can be anonymous in many of the big games. I don’t think our rivals would have tolerated this inconsistency with one of their players. He has had his chance and has failed to impress, and now he wants to move to a more forward role to which there is no chance of it happening with the likes of RVP and Pod above him in the pecking order. The OX looks a much better prospect than Walcott and so does Cambell and Ryo. I would sell him now and give one of the other guys a chance (could rotate between them for that position).
I would definately keep him but i wouldn't let him dictate terms. The truth is, he is a good player but would a top 4 side buy him? Man U, Man City and Spurs would not buy him. Chelsea is looking to buy but i think their target is for a world class talent. The only club i could see coming in for Walcott is Liverpool, and i'm not sure they would sanction such a move after the English dross they've already brought in. Walcott would be at the top of the pile though. I'm also not sure he would go for it as Liverpool are not in the Champions league and not lively to get top 4 unless Arsenal, Chelsea or Spurs mess up in the coming seasons. I also doubt if he'd go abroad, English players simply don't like leaving the cosy setting of the British Isles. They lack the neccessary culture and class to live and play in the Spanish, Italian or German leagues. So there you have it, we have the upper hand over Walcott. He would be well advised to sign a 4 year contract with us. We are the best team he can ever expect to join.
Walcott is a one trick pony. The trick being to run into a cul-de-sac and then launch the ball into a defender's ankle.
In an ideal world if you don't renew and we have a solid mid table finish between 12th-8th is it that far fetched for him to come home? He'd be a star and played upfront for us, plus if we did have a solid first season we have the finances to really push on and show some ambition. What do you guys think? Too far fetched? He didn't want to go when we sold him it was because we were broke...
Nope I really want to keep him but if he had to leave I would rather It be you guys. Having said that I have full faith in him.
I had my doubts about Walcott this season and at one point did think about the idea of selling him. But again, he still produced good numbers in the final third and you only need to listen to RVP to understand Walcott's qualities. Unlike with RVP, I can't see any big clubs coming in for Walcott, so we could take our time and get him on a contract which suits the club better.
Yep, I can see them wanting him. But, I can also see Walcott rejecting them. Liverpool is a step down and I doubt Walcott will take it.
I'm telling you, selling Walcott would be a mistake. He's a confidence player, when we hit form he is one of the most dangerous forwards in the Premier League.
I agree, but the problem is he doesn't hit form enough. For the 1st half of 10/11, he was unplayable at times, which weirdly coincided with Chamakh's run in the team.
I agree that he's hit and miss. But I think he is one of our most dangerous players when he's on form. For that reason, he deserves a place in the first team.
