http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25628803 The Football Association will take no further action against Arsenal's Theo Walcott over his gesture to Tottenham fans in Sunday's FA Cup tie. Theo wasn't exactly abusing them, just having some light hearted banter. Pity the rabid Spuds fans couldn't reciprocate...
makes sense, clearly wasn't offensive in the normal meaning, although if it became a regular thing in the game the FA would have to step in just because antagonising the crowd becomes a safety issue if they move forward, like with jumping into the crowd being a yellow
Agree ... but don't turn it into a spurs thing mate...the behaviour was grim ... throwing coins etc. but the photo of the ground staff holding coins should around a dozen coins which equates to 2.5 people per thousand or 0.25%. As for the verbal abuse .... ALL fans do it... **** knows why ... they are happy to dish it out but cry foul when it comes back at them. Remember the abuse Arsenal fans gave VDV before he scored a penalty against you in our 3-2 win against you? After scoring he ran round the back of the goal and in front of the arsenal crowd put his hand to his ear and smiled. Abuse (and several objects) were thrown at him and he got a yellow for "inciting" the crowd. Personally I think crowds should either shut the **** up or accept players taking the piss back at them...but there is a minority of ****ers at all clubs that act like ****s at a drop of a hat.
Arsenal fans are lords and kings, we have a right to do as we please and say as we please to others, but they in turn due to their inferior peasant status in comparison to the mighty status of the Arsenal lords, have no right to respond back. If a king insults a peasant, does that peasant reserve the right to insult the king back? Off course not, this would be a travesty, and an absurdity!
Totally agree with you. There are no worse hypocrites than football fans.We played Man City a few years ago and gave Adebayor dog's abuse,he scores against us but when he celebrated in front of us we didn't like it.We now think it's OK to sing songs about RVP being a rapist. If fans want to dish it out they must also learn to take it.
Not really. His injury has got nothing to do with it, so it shouldn't be used as an excuse to make a point. The point is that it wasn't an issue which thankfully the FA have seen the wisdom of. As SJW points out it's a bit of a shocker because the FA can be inconsistent at best and at times completely unpredictable with their sanctions.
I don't think it is a good idea for players to bait opposition crowds, albeit good naturedly. I personally don't have much problem with what he did, but the lack of sanctions could be an excuse for another player to do it and provoke something nasty.
Perhaps the FA felt they had set a precedent when they took no action against Gareth Bale for doing the same thing
I had to laugh when I read that two of the stretcher bearers pelted by missiles by the scummy spud fans where themselves supporters of our shadow dwelling neighbours
Theo's gesture was the lesser of 2 evils by far. The fans that threw coins should get life bans yet they are hardly mentioned.
One of your mods was crying foul because he thought Walcott should have had sanctions against him and cited Gary Neville being fined 5k for gesturing to the Liverpool fans, but as mentioned he conveniently 'forgot' to mention that the FA didn't reprimand Gareth Bale for doing the exact same thing to Arsenal fans last season. I guess his double standards are in line with the FA's then .... ?
He's not banned though, he's injured. He shouldn't be banned because it was a nothing incident. As mentioned the coin throwing is the bigger issue here.
