Rumours coming in that Theo will sign a new 4-year deal worth 90k a week in the next few days. It's not official yet, but it should be soon!! What's your thoughts on this if true? http://metro.co.uk/2013/01/02/theo-...l-after-holding-fresh-round-of-talks-3335287/ Plus other sources
Hopefully it's done in the next few days, as it's been one tedious story from day one. Then Walcott can focus only on what he does on the pitch and the club can look to bring in some new players.
gent will be thrilled Seriously though, this will be a very good piece of news. Walcott is becoming the quality player that we'd all hoped he would become, to lose him now would be a massive kick in the nuts.
I can't be bothered to look up for the thread before the season started where almost everyone here said something along the lines of "if it's true he can **** off" to reports Walcott is holding out for more money. There as well I said I would keep him for reasonable amounts as a squad player (a squad player that has still proven absolutely nothing against teams that defend). Making him the most paid player at Arsenal would be a parody of the club. No way has he earned anything of that sort. Once we get more options upfront he will be relegated to "may start on the right". Against defensive teams Wenger would probably prefer Oxo, but his poor form has probably tied his hands there, so Walcott would probably start even those games (and reliably go missing).
On the issue of keeping Walcott I'm "consistent", which is something I can't say about the rest of you. That pre-season thread was pretty venomous.
If you check, you'll find that there were a lot of us who were saying that Walcott should stay because they recognised the contribution he makes to the team
Yeah i mentioned that bit to distinguish between "keep him at reasonable demands" vs. "at all costs".
If it was at all costs then surely he'd be on more money than pod.... Also correct me of I'm wrong but he's scored more goals than pod this season so it's not really at all costs tbh.
Theo is a quality player. His goals and assists last season and his vastly improved goal tally so far this season speaks for itself. He's worth 90k and if we didn't pay him that, somebody else would.
Podolski according to most sources I can find is on 100K/week. If it is true, then you both changed the number by 10K to suit your argument, which I find a little bit funny (sorry). I think on the whole, that this is a good deal. Walcott was not asking for an amount that would rip the pay scale to shreds, so it does show that the board will bend, if a reasonable number is talked about.
