Probably bull, but do we have a sell on According to the Daily Star: "BARCELONA will attempt to lure Theo Walcott away from the Ermirates in January. The winger, who is out of contract at the end of next season, has given no definite indication that he is ready to commit to the Gunners. The news has alerted Barca boss Pep Guardiola - who is preparing a big-money bid for the youngster. Walcott is confident he has the skill, pace and firepower to emulate Barcelona star Lionel Messi, playing as a striker rather than as a winger. The magical Messi, who also started life playing wide on the wing, scored a staggering 55 goals in all competitions for Barcelona last season and has continued in a similar vein this term. Now Walcott is hoping to get the chance to show that he can make an equally dramatic transition and show what he can do as a leading striker. Walcott delivered his plea for a career-changing positional change in a heart-to-heart with Arsene Wenger over the summer. That came as the Gunners under-fire boss voiced genuine fears that his former Southampton whiz kid could join the exodus of big names out of the Emirates. But Walcott believes the switch could transform him into the sort of player that has had Messi mesmerising central defenders all over the world. And with teenage new boy Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain already emerging as a force to be reckoned with on the wing, Walcott has urged Wenger to give him a go with a new role that has considerably enhanced his England prospects. And this season, Walcott has already caught the eye as a hitman. And he has already scored three goals this season. He said: âI believe I can give so much more to the team playing up front, with the runs I can make off the ball. And I just love hitting the back of the net as well,â âAt times I feel a bit, if not wasted, then in and out of games on the right. I just want it more and more, having scored a few last season. Iâm not a winger and I think plenty of people know that. âIâve done OK out there, but Iâd love to play down the middle,â Walcott added." ===
Three consecutive sentences started with "And", a nine year old would lose marks in his homework for that.
I thought we (sorry, Rupert) settled it early because we were that desperate for cash. I'm more hopeful that we have a sell on for Chamberlain than Theo, simply because of his better potential.
I doubt it; I'm assuming that if one was in place at the time of the transfer, Arsenal bought it out in the settlement.
Agreed. The sell-on is no longer. Plus, it's doubtful Barca would want Theo anyway. Where would they play him?
Was that one definately Lowe? I'm sure during the dark days, we "sold-off" both Walcott's sell on clause and Bale's sell on clause - but I'm certain that our chairman at the time was different for each. Lowe did one and Crouch (or possible Wilde, but I think Crouch) did the other, I'm sure of it....but I've got no idea which was which.
Matt's just said it was Crouch (albeit Lowe was involved with Bale's sell-on). Blame Lowe for things he did, but don't blame him for things which Crouch or Wilde did.
And words with more than one syllable, too. Walcott's probably getting ahead of himself, but why not? If he thinks he's good enough and Barca take him on, then good for him.
Two points. First of all he's never good enough for Barca. Secondly, sell on clauses only kick in on the profit that the selling club make. As Theo is out of contract next season, I can't see anyone paying £10m for him so I don't think there will be any profit for Arsenal for us to have a share of!
As others have said, Theo's sell on clause was settled for money up front. Reputedly we have a big sell on clause for Oxo (40%) unless we got the 12-15 mill because NC agreed to go for a lower one. A large sell on clause can cause problems as it makes it harder to shift players because the selling club get's comparatively little back.
Theo has clearly developed a love of sitting on the bench. I cant imagine him getting any closer than that to the pitch at Barcelona, thus providing an attractive option for him now that Arsene finally seems to be asking him to do some work.
