I got the 1973 Cup final DVD for Christmas. I have watched it 5 times already. What strikes me more than anything is how hard the game was. Switch into the modern era there would have been 10 yellow cards, perhaps 2 or 3 reds, a penalty or two and at least 4 players stretched off. Instead a couple of bookings only and all the players soldiering on. I honestly cannot say whether I prefer the game now or how it used to be but one thing for sure it is not the same.
Yeah the good old days when you were allowed to tackle. Mind you some of them were X rated. Richie Pitts tackle on Alan Clarke in the first few minutes would defo receive a red card these days, but as far as i'm concerned that and Porterfields goal won it for us that day. Alan Clarke spent the rest of the game hiding, soft little whinging nonce. Happy days.
