What are the injustices in the ring. My top 3 are. 3: Lennox Lewis vs Evander Holyfield I. Lewis dominated the fight I think nearly doubling Holyfields connects. But the result was a draw, one judge actually scored it for Holyfield. 2: Robin Reid vs Sven Ottke. One of the reason why it was said you need a knockout in Germany to get a draw. Ried was getting penalised for hitting Ottke. Anytime Reid would get on top the ref would pull him back and warn him and just incase that was enough the judges made sure Ottke would remain unbeaten. 1: Agebeko vs Mares. What can you say about Russel Mora call in this fight. Mares caught Agebeko with 30 low blows, received a few warning but no point deducted. And when Agebeko went down from huge low blow right in plain sight of the ref, he began the count. Whats is your top 3?
I hate to say it about Froch, but he was soundly beaten in this fight - the referee was a shambles.
Marquez vs Pacquaio 3 times! Hopkins vs Taylor twice Calzaghe vs Hopkins The article below have a few more: http://thedailysportsherald.blogspot.com/2008/11/greatest-boxing-robberies-of-last.html
Mosely v DLH was also a shocker, but agreed..the Reid v Ottke fight really left a bad taste in your mouth. Oh, and I always believe Hagler v Leonard was the wrong way round and no-one can convince me otherwise
actually thinking about it oscars fights which went to the score cards were often controversial, i think sturm beat him. sturm, trinidad and mosely were all controversial
"I've been covering boxing twenty years. I would put this in the top five for the worst decisions I've seen." - Steve Farhood (Showtime boxing analyst) "A travesty." - New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani "The judges verdict was the most disgusting decision I've ever seen in boxing." - Former WBC champ Frank Bruno "This is what is killing boxing." - Emanuel Steward (Lewis' trainer) "I feel sorry for myself. I've taken so much stick. But I feel even more sorry for Lennox." - British judge Larry O'Connell (who scored the fight 115-115) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just some of the reaction to that decision.
As Boom Boom Cheik CHeik the Room!, said Oscar has been on the wrong side of some wrong decisions but he was gifted here. Strum was lucky to come away with the win against Macklin
Yes. Of the 6 fights you cited, only one could be considered a real robbery. 2 controversial and the rest close.
Marquez cleraley won 3 matches against Pacquaio although the first was the closest Hopkins beat Taylor twice, did you see the fight? he was robbed Alright the Calzaghe Hopkins fight wasn't a robbery but the result should have been a draw rather than a win for Calzaghe, Hopkins landed with the cleaner punches. does this answer your question?
Fair enough your entitled to your oppinion but the vast majority of boxing experts had Marquez winning at least 2 of the 3 fights and a large portion of the US media had Hopkins winning at least 1 of the fights although I again had him winning both of the fights due to better shots landed , I agree the calzaghe Hopkins fight wasnt a robbery but it should have been a draw seeing as the fight was so close.
Having someone winning is different to a robbery though. A certain set of circumstances has to happen before a fight can be considered a robbery. I'll use the Mc Dermott Vs Fury (first fight) as an example. Fury got the nod 88-82. I had McDermott winning by 2 I think. Nearly everyone had McDermott by a couple, but he lost by 6. That is a robbery. If Fury had been given the fight by a round, it would be ok, but he didn't. He got a landslide. That is a robbery. Recently, Tom Dallas got the victory in an 8 rounder against Zack Page. At the time, Dallas hadn't been beaten and Page was there as as a gatekeeper. Page got robbed. Dallas wasn't in the fight. Both of those are big robberies, just nobody gave a damn.
