..... the BBC sacked Jermaine Jenas and that twat Murphy (he is exactly the player Arsenal need) from MotD and used the money saved to keep that cake baking programme on the BBC.

I wonder how much the BBC paid Nigel Havers, Catherine Tate, and Dame Eileen Atkins to appear in the Archers on Sunday?

I think we should be told.

All the BBC4 shows from the music archives justify the license fee. Should probably bring back The Old Grey Whistle Test though.

More like get rid of Lineker/Norton/Chris Evans/Alex Jones/Winkleman. Probably £5m savings right there.

I've never seen Bake Off. From that position of ignorance it seems to me that the cultural norm at the BBC is to introduce shows that invent competition such as Bake Off, Master Chief, Strictly Come Dancing, etc etc because they can't compete with Sky or BT to show real sport. Sad really...

I don't think any of the terrestrial channels have any interest in showing sport anymore. The BBC horse racing coverage used to be excellent but they cut it right back to nothing at all. And while CH4 still has racing, I remember their coverage of the 2005 Ashes as being a benchmark for excellence for televised cricket. Now they don't even show the highlights.

Personally I don't give a fig for Bake Off it is just that I would do anything to get that twat Murphy off the TV and radio.

Danny Murphy is an inspiration. For the many millions of people like myself who, like him, forever look like we woke up in a ditch after bingeing on high-test psychotropics, he provides the belief that we can defy the odds and have a career in a visual medium so long as we first manage a two-decade stint in professional football.

I can still remember the thrill of anticipation of a great afternoon of sport heralded by this wonderful theme tune:

These shows illustrate the dumbing down of mainstream television.

GBBO has developed into one of the most popular programmes but its contract is nearly up and it has got a big money move where it will probably be appreciated less.

    The BBC is basically Saints.

    Not fussed at all.

For me Bake Off has got less watchable every year. What started off as a show for everyone has now become a show for the almost professional baker with a decent sob story to try to show off doing baking that most average people would never have a chance of doing.

Will go one of 2 ways with C4 - either back to basics (good I think), or like Channel 4 where they look for 'characters' who would make 'good TV' (bad!!).
