The last day of player trading is upon us, with deals permissible until 11pm this evening - after which we're saddled with what we've got for the next seventeen Premier League fixtures until the January madness.

And while most toon-related interest surrounds the possibility of late interest in Yohan Cabaye, attempts continue to sign a wide player from overseas - a deal not thought to be dependent on any departures from SJP in order to happen.

One day perhaps someone will explain to us mere mortals why clubs are such willing participants in this artificial nonsense and cannot conclude their business in the months leading up to this final day farce....

It does make you wonder doesn't it though. Waiting till the the last minute to acquire a player you feel you need, when you could have had him earlier helping to win a few more points. It doesn't help that lots of teams wait till the Window and end up bidding against each other whereas if they did their business earlier they wouldn't have faced so much competition and not needed to spend so much.

Is it just us and Arsenal who haven't bought this summer? Everyone else has.

"Arsenal have opened talks with Chelsea over the possibility of signing Demba Ba on loan, France Football magazine are reporting on their website. They say Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has tabled a bid to secure the loan of the Senegal striker, who recently held talks with Jose Mourinho over his future."

It's Arsenal, West Brom & ourselves who have yet to spend on permanent transfers.
