My view is max points needed is 35. I think most of them will do well to get another 10 points and they all play each other down there so unless something radical happens quite possibly 33 is enough. I think its actually everton OR watford, leeds just need 2 wins max or a few draws. I voted Norwich, Burnley and Watford for the drop.
I think Everton will escape; they've currently got the points and games advantage; games in-hand could help them but better to have the points on the board at that end of the table Norwich are already gone imo I hope Burnley join them but have the games advantage. Suspect Leeds will be the worst of the rest. Brentford and Newcastle are more or less safe now imo
Was chatting to Milk about this, I genuinely hope they don't. As much as it's kinda funny I want the derby games and I'd love it to get back to the old days where there was less bitterness between the fans.
If they do go down. It will be @Tobes and @Peej fault for welching our #goncarlo bet Ill be sure to remind them both of that should the worst happen
Agreed. I said I'd feel the same if it were Man Utd in that position too. Funny as **** initially but I'd miss the games and "rivalry"
They're not going down. I would think it funny if they did, but would expect and hope they returned soon. Everton spending a decade in the swamp wouldn't be much fun. A season there would be a laugh though. I actually hope Everton do well in general... But give us a year to have a laugh first. The current bottom three are probably the final bottom three. Only Burnley had a chance to move out realistically. Everton have a lot of games in hand over most of the rest of the field so their table position is probably artificially low. Of course those extra games mean more wear and tear on their players over the same length of time. I'm expecting the toffees to win the "not get relegated" trophy this year. If they did get relegated, I would be cheering them on to win the Championship next year!
I don't think they will be relegated because there are teams worse than them but their remaining fixtures aren't kind. I wouldn't miss the derby one bit. It's gone from being the friendly derby to an excuse for them to injure our players. The last derby saw one of their fans trying to punch Salah when he was going for a corner. The absolute joy from a large portion of their fans over Van Dijk being out for the season put the top hat on it for me. I have family and friends who are Blues and what I've come to think over at least the past 10 years, is that I wish there were 2 Evertons, one that does well for my family and one that gets relegated and remains there for several seasons for the bitters.
It's hard to understand where it's gone so wrong. I imagine Everton fans would have **** stories to tell about our fans as well. It's easy when you are certain age to always blame it on the next generation but it can't be that simple?
i dunno, but there is an element of it being the last generation not the current young one. The ones that rock in a corner and talk about hysel being the root of all problems etc etc. But then again it could be symptom of the times with the internet and all that. then again..... it could be down to jealousy.
Sadly, I can't see that ever happening. There are those who aren't so hostile of course, but I think those who are are beyond any change of heart now. It's a shame - it's such a long way from how it was when I was a kid and we'd all happily mix on the terraces.
At the risk of sounding old again, social media must play a part the constant interaction between fans can't help and as we all know it gets nasty quickly online.
My very first memories of supporting Liverpool go back to primary school and the question everyone asked "red or blue". Everyone was either Liverpool or Everton fan, or expected to be, and you were odd if anything else. Of course, back then I knew even less about football than I do now, but it was the 80's, both teams were big names and challenging and everyone got along. I think things went bad when Everton became a team that bounced around all over the table without much success whereas we continued to cement ourselves as a big four club. We stayed a big team even at our worst, and Everton declined. We were no longer peers and Everton resented us. ... I'm sure there was bragging and ribbing from our fans that contributed to that... But the problem stemmed when they stopped being a true rival and became just another team who felt like they deserved to be a rival.
I agree they should be safe, but they will have to start putting some points on the board. What is it - 2 wins and 8 defeats or something this year? They have to improve on that.
They've had such a long barren time that watching the club they share a city with hoovering up all the top prizes has taken it's toll on a lot of them mentally, a mix of jealousy, bitterness and rage. Remember when they said if only they had money then they'd be more successful? It was the main topic on the BBC 606 when Moyes was struggling on a shoestring. They got their money in massive amounts and they've actually gone backwards since. The Brick pub (an Everton pub close to the ground) puts a buffet on for the fans of the Manchester clubs when they are over playing us. There are photos of utd supporters on the Brick Twitter page standing in the pub with a huge banner with YSB on it (translation: you scouse b*******) . Siding with the mancs over your own? Not something Liverpool fans do. I could go on but as I said I have family who are Blues and I don't like that they are maybe tarred with the same brush as the boo merchants.
I find it interesting, seen loads of reasons suggested but it seems complicated and not something that is going to improve.
