So the Court of Session has decided that the punishment handed down by the SFA panel was illegal. Fair enough. If it was then justice has been done, however, FIFA and UEFA dont look on it that way. They have regulations and punishments for clubs which revert to civil courts in the case of judgements handed out by national associations. The SFA must now look at the sanctions which wre originally available to them. Both UEFA and FIFA will be keeping a close eye on this. They will want the SFA to hand out one of the original sanctions, expulsion or suspension or no further action, however this is now complicated by the breach of the FIFA/UEFA regs on civil court actions. Rangers could argue that they could not go to the Court of Sports Arbitration since they did not have sufficient time. I would imagine that UEFA will respond by saying that it is rangers fault that they are in such a predicament, in that they choose to run up the debts and end up in admin and that the club was responsible for tax evasion with regard to PAYE and NI. Every club in the World will now watch closely to see if rangers get away with challenging the national association in a civil court and breaching FIFA/UEFA regulations. The worst outcome, expulsion would give D&P a way out, in that the whole Admin process seems to have been beyond them and expulsion means that they are let off the hook and UEFA or SFA carry the can for rangers demise. One thing is certain, UEFA/FIFA cannot loose face or seen to be undermined by a relatively small club in a small league. Rangers may well have sharpened the blade for their own Hari Kari.
