After all the talk of the difficulties of going to and getting back from London the fans of both clubs had to travel slightly further to Valencia on a Wednesday night. Kick off was 21.30 so the game didn't finish until 23.15. That meant not getting out of the ground until midnight. Spain must have a lot better transport than we do. And fans who are prepared to put themselves out more, travelling on a working day and not getting back until 6 or 7am the next day. Of course at midnight everywhere would still be open in Valencia unlike here so the celebrations could start. Real flew home after the match and thousands greeted them for an open top bus tour at 3am. Could you imagine that in the "vibrant" City of Culture 2017?
Looking at the angles of those stands it is difficult to believe that a reason given by the Safety Advisory Group for not placing away fans in the West Stand Upper was that they would stand up and it was supposedly so steep that there was a danger of people standing up toppling over and landing on the people in the lower tier. It must be great to go to football matches in places without all the petty restrictions and regulations we have here.
