Well I popped into WHSmith today to buy the Western Mail and revel in the reports of Swansea beating Liverpool. The back page was 95% splattered with the Man City / Man Utd games. Big games I know, but the Western Mail is meant to be the "national newspaper of WALES". So I turned to the sport section in the middle, and lo-and-behold the front page of the Sports section was also plastered with the Man* story. So I threw the paper back in the pile in disgust. What a complete joke - the Swans beat Liverpool to finish 11th in the best league in the world, and the Western ******* Mail missed it. Imagine, I said to myself, if it had been Cardiff beating Liverpool. But then I remembered Wembley in February, and it brought the smile back to my face.

Later on this afternoon I tuned into that bastion of Welsh broadcasting, Radio Wales, for the 6:40pm slot on football. Great, I thought, a chance to bask in the afterglow of a FANTASTIC season. I've travelled quite a bit recently and believe me, there are people the other side of the world that stop you and say "Ahh, Swansea - Swansalona!" I try to point out that it's Barcelona that play the Swansea way, not the other way round. Anyway, back to the story. Guess what Radio Wales' main story was tonight? Newport County v York City in the Conference cup final. Fair enough, I thought, it was a big day for the club and I wish them well. But after that, Radio Wales proceeded with another 20 minutes of the Man* story. I did not hear one mention of the S word during the 21 minutes I tuned in (I switched the radio over to 5live at that point, and they've mentioned Swansea about half a dozen times already).

What do we learn from this? To quote a well known phrase, "We're Premier League, They Aren't, AND IT IS KILLING THEM!!!!!!"

The other thing we learn from all this: All Welsh media (apart from the SWEP, bless them) are Cardiff block-heads. Long may their race to the bottom continue (no double-entendre intended, Ting Tong <whistle>).

I read the WM on line but I won't buy it for the reasons you state and stopped buying Wales on Sunday years ago. BBC, both audio and visual, are Cardiff obsessed donkeys and should be ashamed to purport to represent Wales. They don't and they display their petty small mindedness on a daily basis.

Never mind. As you say, WE ARE PREMIER LEAGUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was almost banned today off the Cardiff board for using 'Ting Tong' as it's 'racist'. FFS they don't object to Hughs's posts suggesting Jacks are *****philes. Apparently that's a great laugh. <doh>

Can't ****ing stand the bastards. After what I've seen this season I really hope they crash and burn. If they end up in the Prem we'll get even less coverage from the Welsh media than we do know. Can you imagine?

**** 'em and their pathetic ****ed up club.

The Cardiff based media are an absolute disgrace, always have been and always will be. I don't really give a toss what those ****ers think to be honest.

In Wales (except Swansea) I firmly
believe that the media are trying to ignore the fact we have the the number one team in fact they seen to be going out of their way to hide it too. If Charlie Chan and the boys from Legoland were Premier League it would be rammed down our throats 24 hours a day.

Turn on National TV, Radio or read national press and we get mentioned all the time. The exposure we are getting in the rest of the UK and worldwide is simply phenomenal. It makes the lack of it in Wales insignificant. We are Premier League, they are not and it is killing them (I started that off).

Yesterday we beat Liverpool. Another team in Wales couldn't. The difference between us and Cardiff is that we are better and not just a little bit, we are a lot better than them. If we played them tomorrow we would win at an absolute canter.

**** em ! We don't need them at all, just read the national papers and the international plaudits we get for bringing a brand of football people love. We are premier league, and they are not it's that simple.

When we went into the decline after the Tosh revolution you should have heard them, like vultures! I am convinced they slagged the club off so much that it put many off, losing us even more money and making the nose dive faster than it should have been. Back stabbing gits.

    Campioni- Top post fella <ok>

It is Killing every single one of the Cardiff centered Media outlets make no mistake! Im glad you have highlighted this, its our responsibility as Swansea Jacks to point out every single media miscarriage of Justice that takes place against us and other parts of Wales, the more we become known worldwide the more it stands out and highlights how much media Black out we suffer.

Best thing we can do is not buy their WOS and westrern fail, and let it be known they are not and never will support anything west of Cardiff, people buy these papaers assuming they are getting fair colunm inches, they are not !! time to let every jack know these Cardiff centered outlets are targeted for extinction, just like the Blue Jersey and the Bluebird crest <ok>

I go on the Newsnow website and nearly all the press we get on there is from OUTSIDE Wales, and its not even just a little bit, we genuinely get write-ups from countries i am yet to hear of! The stuff they say about us to are a really great read, nothing but praise. Shame we cant say the same from our own national papers... Except the Evening Post that is.

The longer we stay in the premiership and the longer Cardiff aren't will have a huge effect on our fanbase in Wales for a generation. Kids who at 6 or 7 years old fall for Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea etc will now start looking to the Swans because of our status. That can only be a good thing.
Looking at the breakdown of fans of Swansea and Cardiff, I'm guessing at percentages here- within Swansea the majority are Swansea fans. In Port Talbot, (having lived there most of my life) I would say probably 70/30 in Swanseas favour. In Bridgend, I would say that is reversed - more Cardiff fans than Swansea. These are just guessed on my 'feeling' of being around these places and nothing scientific.
It is these percentages that are at stake. The longer we are in the Premier League the more those figures will swing to us I expect.
As for the Welsh media, I don't think their Cardiff bias really has much impact. More people take in the National media - which also helps us. How many watch MOTD ? Just being on that show does more than a 30 second snippet on the Welsh news.
It is sad though that Swansea's achievments this season are being muffled by the media within their own country.
On another note, I was totally shocked watching the Liverpool match here in Australia - Barry Horne was commentating and he had nothing but good things to say about us!!!! I know I was tired, as it kicked off at midnight here but I definately heard him say a lot of positive things about our team. See, the percentage swing is already beggining to happen.

Yes, I heard it too. Barry Horne paid us a lot of compliments and he particularly seemed impressed with the touches of skill shown by Leon and the lads. Nice to hear it.

After years of following the Swans , it seems there is no such thing as Welsh media ... just Cardiff media . It's so blatant it can't really be argued really .

Yeah we had a stream with his commentary too and he was pretty effusive at times. Fair play to him! Didn't he play for Everton though? I'd imagine that worked in our favour...

So in keeping with the Animal House idea of something totally futile needs to be done on somebodies part and we're just the guys to do it. If everybody was to get a copy from the SWEP (cut out or copied) of the Liverpool v Swansea report, or from the Guardian or any news paper for that matter, and mail it to the WM with a note that said "think you missed this" .... The deluge in mail that they would receive would be a news event unto itself. Same could be done to BBC Wales.

there are many things i miss and feel nostalgic about when i think of my distant home, however the so-called welsh media ain't one of them. as someone who makes a living from working in the media, i've never understood how or why the cardiff based news outlets became so one-eyed. are they too cosy or too fearful of the soulcrew, i don't know but one things for sure it's been that way for as long as i can remember and it'll never change.
any endearment i feel towards them as a fellow welshmen is invariably compromised by the bias of their press, **** 'em indeed!
