Well is there such a thing? I'm talking about the player template that attracts his attention and influences who he brings to the club. We haven't started buying yet this summer, but given the widely held belief that we need to change our playing approach, it'll be interesting to see if he follows past patterns.

He seems to favour persevering with the "in your face" and aggressive type like Gunnar, Arter, Paterson and Peltier, whilst reluctant to play the more skilfull but "delicate" options like Reid and Murphy. It goes back a while to when he first joined us. Although Whitts was past his best by then, he was told by Warnock that he didn't figure in his plans - that set the stall out.

No doubt we needed battlers back then and it was the right policy but at some point we need to change track. I thought the acquisition of Reid and Murphy was a sign of that but I now wonder why he bought them in the first place.

Is this season back in the Championship the right time to go for a change in style, or should we stick to the "Warnock Template" for this season and worry about it later? Is Warnock able to play a different way is another question, let alone would he chose to.

I'm looking forward to see which way he goes in this window, but in all honesty I can't see him change tack - prove me wrong Mr. Warnock.

Good points Sparks. With Murphy, Reid, NML and Hoilett we have a positive base to build on up front but more signings needed with the ability to get forward and threaten the opposition

The nature of his signings will signpost his intentions. I like the look of the Turnbull lad you mentioned in another post. We have both said we would have loved to have got Cairney from Fulham. This boy looks like he could replicate Cairney.

We still need players who can press and challenge across the park and we should be more successful at this at Championship level.

Anyone who says we had no right to be there i stop reading or listening. So that was it for me with Johnson.

We just need to hold the ball better and be better in possession. That means a couple of additions and for me a new coach to the set up.

We all know Morrison Bamba Ralls Manga Patterson Etheridge Hoillet are Warnock favs. They were part of the squad who got us up and will do again.

I fully agree Hilts. I said in another post we need to blend the back 5 with the front 5. Also to add an attack coach to the staff.

Playing 4231, the defensive back 4 with a gunnar type just in front, a more cultured ball player alongside with the likes of murphy, reid, NML, Hoillet, ward, heally, Ken making up the front 4.
It should be a fluid enough system to give Colin his defensive stability, but enough quality to trouble opposition defences other than from set pieces.

No disrespects Remote but Healey is little more than a competent Div. 1 player and Ward a lower level Championship striker. Neither are quick nor skilfull enough for a top Championship team.

Ward can be useful as a squad back up but in reality both need to move on for better quality players to come in.

I get that blue. It's why I said "the likes of". I think ward or heally in front of an attacking 3 would give us more that we've seen. Not necessarily good enough but better than we've seen.
It would be good to get upgrades on each, but I think we'd get a bigger bang for our buck signing midfielders than strikers.

Just revisited Hilts' post above about the Warnock favourites who will take us up this season........<whistle>

I can see a good shot stopping goalkeeper, 3 decent centrebacks, a right back who is happy to play anywhere but right back, a decent left back, an average midfielder who was kept out of the side by 3 other midfielders who wont be at the club this season, and an utility wide player who blows hot and cold.

Strange, I didn't notice any strikers in there.

Now there just might be a need to score goals this campaign, so who's going to do it out of the previous Championship season contingent - Zohore, Ward or Madine?

First 2 on a good day with a following wind, might score occasionally.

Third, might do but not for us I hope. Get rid.

Fourth, Healey, nice lad, loads of effort but Div 1 player at best.

Fifth, Paterson, probably good for 8 to 10 if stays fit.
