Its reported that Man City, Spurs and Southampton have their eyes on Maja. It will no doubt turn the lads head...why wouldn't it. But hopefully he will have good people around him to make him realise another season or two with Sunderland and especially under Jack Ross will do his game and his profile no harm at all. More hope than expectation, it will be difficult for the lad to turn such an opportunity...but you never know
It'd be a terrible move for him at this point and I hope he knows that. Maybe not financially in the short term but he's not going to get much game time for a premier league side with established forwards. Of course I don't want to sell him but unfortunately, for the foreseeable future, if we can make good money from our youngsters then it's a solid business model for us.
I’m sure Jack Ross can use Asoro as an example of what happens when you leave a club too early, think he’ll stay with us this season, and if we go up the next after, we have a good vide around the club for a long long time, and I think him and a lot of the other players will want to be apart of that, being happy in your job goes a long way.
I can see 1 possible scenario that might suit us, the player and the buying club. If an offer arrives that's too good to turn down in the January window, we only sell if we can loan him back to the end of the season. A PL club are unlikely to be relying on his goals to help them out this season.
Its a bit of a nothing story if you ask me. He's a young lad, on form, scoring goals for a big club in League 1. I'd be surprised, and little be upset, if Premier League clubs WEREN'T watching him. Doesn't mean he's leaving anytime soon. It does mean we're doing something right.
Non starter imo, but it wont do his wage negotiations any harm , although Jack Ross seams to value him already, from what I have read. Give these lads the best we can afford and keep the team spirit high, I notice how well they play together and that is very encouraging, George Honeyman under fire from some, is a footballer who uses his brain, an example is the last minute or two at Bradford, a display of true leadership and courage imo . Sadly in total contrast to Power, I hope the learning process is two way between our home grown players and the new recruits, they must grow together and all including Max will be stronger for it. So far the omens are good and the club is benefiting from the work of our academy, long may it continue.
We should be glad that we've got a player worth buying. We hold an asset It doesn't happen very often
We won't get an offer that's "too good to turn down" though, because his contract is up at the end of the season. We need to tie him down ASAP, or he will be off at the end of the year for nothing if he carries on this form (or even drops off slightly). City and Spurs he would never get a game, although he might be tempted by Spurs given their history of developing youth. However, I think he could be a great fit for Saints unfortunately. I'd go so far saying they have the best youth development record in England, and their current striking options are all pap. Worrying.
I can't understand these Honeyman bashers, he's having a canny season and its great to have a local lad who has come through the ranks as captain. Cattermole was kicking wing mirrors off cars at his age.
No surprise that he has been noticed. It was 100% nailed on to happen. Even if he leaves at the end of his contract, we will get something for his development. Will it happen? We could show him what happened with both Jordan's, Henderson and Pickford, who waited till they were ready for the big move. Then contrast this with examples (and there are loads of them in the Game), of players who moved before they were ready. If it happens there will be no point in moaning. We did it when we were in the 'big league' so now that particular boot may be on the other foot.
Its not the only one either, I think four or five of our youth team are in the same position, I have championed them all on here and hope that the Beadling scenario is not repeated. But we cant rely on loyalty alone in today's game, money talks, and we need our finances in order before we can resist the poachers until it suits us. That day is not so far away, selling our other marksman, Catts in the window has also been muted, but I hardly dare mention it on here.
Yeh we need to tie them down with deals. Ant transfers must have a sell on clause .unfortunately it’s enevaitable we will loose them Sadly
If things go on as they have this season we could well be playing Southampton next season so they are no real step up for Maja. We were always going to get interest from Premier clubs for bright young prospects it's up to our management to try and fend them off by offering these kids decent terms before their contracts expire.
Can't see Saints going down, myself. Think the current bottom three would do very well to avoid the drop, and outside of that there are a couple of others I'd expect to finish below Southampton. I'm a bit worried we won't be able to offer improved terms until the N'Dong and Djilibodji situations are resolved which, judging by the Alvarez debacle, could be we a long time coming yet. We'd be mad not to though - even if blow our wage budget slightly for 6 months and then flog them all in the summer, we'd still be miles better off than losing them for a small compensation fee when their contracts run out.
