    For those that have time to read a long but interesting article, check this out:

    It explains a lot about how football managers use player statistics in football. Perhaps it also explains how Nigel Adkins (who we know is a big user of statistics and detailed analysis), is able to get the best out of the Saints players.

    I have time to read anything that isn't work! As a certified fully paid up nerd I am loving the eight uses of nerd in that article.

    Here's a bit of a low-tech analysis that Nigel uses - each morning the players take a urine test, if they haven't been taking on enough fluids they get fined.

    Are you one of those anal types who like to use every trifling feature on FM?

    Good read.

    Nige is always quick to reel off a stat after games. Richard Chaplow made 19 high intensity sprints and you have to say that i have never seen a fitter Southampton team.
    I wonder if we use the data for recruitment? Hooiveld and De Ridder were plucked from relative obscurity. Was Nigel sat at his PC doing a search;

    Left Footed
    Heading 15 +
    Passing 15 +
    Available for loan
