Even though we haven't won the title since 1990 we are still top of the all time table. Liverpool lead Manchester United, Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham in Ultimate League please log in to view this image http://www1.skysports.com/football/...enal-everton-and-tottenham-in-ultimate-league Fergie will have a hissy fit.
Its basically utterly pointless analysis but yes after 25 years of work ferguson could not get to top of this which shows how bad utd were back in the dim mists of time as LFC at least held up around top 2-7 places all during our lean years. having current v 50 years average is really really pointless though... why bother.
Its an achievement on their part to be above Arsenal and Everton, the ****s were relegated and us and the two I mentioned have been top flight stalwarts. #historicalfackt
Like MITO said, utterly pointless analysis and table. Figures and historical data can be manipulated to show anything you want. Why use 50 years? If 20 or 25 years or premiership years were used, then we will be way down the table. Banging about history may make us feel good. Like the 18 league titles and the 5 CL titles we had. But what it also does is if we are not careful make us complacent and accept mediocrity. "It is OK. We don't need to challenge for the title as we are still top of the "ultimate league" and no one can catch us" . It does show how far we need to improve before we can match the teams of the past. No one in in the last 25 years have come close not even last season's...
I know it is a bit of fun. and is bound to wind up the mancs and the chavs On an intellectual level though, the method used lacks validity as it does not actually measure what it purports to measure. That is how good a team had been over 50 years. To illustrate my point: take Chelsea. Using this method they are so far 6th with 11 points average. If Liverpool maintains an average ranking of 3.3 over the next 150 YEARS (which is not impossible) Chelsea would not be able to better that 3.3 and be 1st even if they finish as champions 150 times during that period ! Chelsea will achieve only 3.5 (550+150 divided by 200). That is really going to please the Chelsea fans Basically the way the league table is produced is a bit simplistic !
Yeah Carl it was just meant as fun and manc bait, even though it was compiled by Sky who invented football as we now know it I think they posted the article for a laugh. Unless there's a trophy involved its just a statistic and it was never a competition anyway.
