    Was anyone aware of this?
    did anyone see similar incidents?
If true it's a very sad state of affairs.

    http://www.newcastleunited-mad.co.u...with_police_investigation_790921/index.shtml?

Newcastle United have urged the father of a schoolboy hit by a policeman at the end of their match in Lisbon to make an official complaint.

The Benfica fans were FABULOUS to us the entire five days we were in Portugal, and nothing should be taken away from that fact.
But the police were a different story.
The incident happened as fans were leaving the Estadio da Luz, following Newcastle’s 3-1 defeat away to Benfica in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final.
We were told we would be kept in for 30mins, but after 50mins fans started getting frustrated, asking police why we couldn't be be "released".
Fans tried to get to the gates and police hit out with batons.
The club said fans made them aware that a young Newcastle supporter, believed to be just seven years old, had been hit with a baton.
Mobile phone footage taken by a spectator appears to capture the moment one officer, dressed in full riot gear, starts swinging his baton at fans.
The video is said to show a young fan falling backwards from a blow to the head, before being surrounded by protective adult fans.
A statement on the club’s official website said: “Whilst club stewards and officials were inside the ground, none witnessed the incident.
“Club officials made Northumbria Police, who were working with local police, aware of the reported incident.
“The club would strongly encourage the father of the young fan to make a formal complaint to the Portugal police, which can be done via Northumbria Police, so that the incident may be investigated.
“Newcastle United will assist with any investigation.”

I was there - They were manhandling fans and looked like they were throwing punches. I didn't see a child hit but I can well believe it to be honest.

I heard the young lad was working his ticket. Even had the temerity to stick his tongue out and blow a raspberry. Don't start what you can't finish. <laugh>

In all seriousness what is fecking wrong with these guys. Is there a law against blow jobs in Portugal? It is the only rational explanation for the policemen being such massive dicks.

" Portugese men of War "....Pah, I spit in your eye.

That said, one of the bastards nearly stung me knackers off when I was swimming at St. Abbs Head on a scout camp.

The handling of football fans is always rank incompetance by foreign police but they get away with it time after time, anyone at Milan when the police watched on as their fans threw all kinds of stuff down on us? Amazingly shows how well our police now handle games

Our police, you must be f--cking joking mate, have you ever been to a derby match, its an absolute disgrace the way the police go out of their way to cause problems, especially when we come to St James' , I've seen it first hand and I'm 64 years old, and wise enough to keep out the road.
Also, last time we played the Boro, a magistrate from Boro witnessed the fiasco at Sunderland railway station and he stated that if any of the supporters that had been manhandled by the coppers appeared before him he would dismiss the case, good on him.
I know both of our sides have more than their fair share of nutters but the police seem to be hyped up worse than the fans on derby day.
Heres to a peacefull 3 points for Paulo's blackshirts on Sunday.

We're going to be going toe to toe with the ugly side of football on Sunday.

Seriously though, the parents should make a formal complaint as they have been instructed by NUFC. As the act was captured on video it's hopeful that the guilty party can be held accountable.

    Fair enough.

And it is Paolo not Paul-o. Bet you can't even tell the difference between parmesan reggiano and grana padano. <doh>

Hahaha. I once bought a block of peccorino when I needed parmesan for a cannelloni. <doh> What a fool I am.
