Many, many highs from this season, but also many important victories which have led us to where we are today. So, with that in mind, in your honest opinion's, what was the game/result that changed our fortunes from possibly finishing in the play-offs to finishing in the automatic positions. For me, I would have to chose Millwall away. 2-1 down with five minutes left, only to come back and win 3-2. Must have really depressed the promotion rivals! SGMI.
Which is why I would vote Leeds in the opening day because of the momentum it gave us from the get go.
Very true! However, I would refer you all to the 30 seconds period when we equalised against Millwall and West Ham went behind against Leeds! Thought I'd died and gone to heaven!
Gone for Millwall game because didn't think we were going to get a draw never mind a win, but I agree with Joe, it was the whole season. Every one of those games was important because we got 3 points but none resulted in a change in the team. Nigel kept them always confident and never let them get down. That first match against Leeds was when I started to believe.
Millwall 2 - Saints 3 has to be an important point to me, especially with the WHU result that day. Being behind that goal when Rickie scored the 3rd goal from the spot was just fab-adab-alusie !!!!!!! That is the difference with this Saints team/squad over the past couple of seasons - when things are not going well they can manage to turn it around on many occassions. Not always but more than often they will - and if comes to a pen then you can put your shirt on our Rickie. Messi and Ronaldo eat your hearts out ! Those 2 pens were not lucky - Sainst were attacking the Millwall penalty area constantly and they buckled under the onslaught.
If anything it was our decent run away from home at the end of the season which gave us 6 wins out of our last 8 away games.
Exactly. Actually, the real turning point didn't occur this season, It was when Markus and Nicola walked in through the door of St Marys.
For me i really belived we would do it was when away at Reading down to 10 men getting outplayed them De Ridder scored...the team that day showed me that they really wanted it ....
I agree with those who say that the key result of this season was the opening game against Leeds. Winning the first match of the season, especially so comprehensively, I think game the team the momentum to carry on in much the same vein.
so many if you ask me but tbh, i think you've got the major's. for me though, leeds at home, opening day & hammonds goal (below). loved every moment of it & the players celebrations showed me we were onto something very special.
Blackpool away, then compounded by Reading at home... Cost us the title. The first led to us stuttering to the end of the season, the second knocked the stuffing out of our title hopes.
Leeds away for me, that result defied all logic and brought home that anything was possible if you want it enough.
