and you can hide behind your alto ego.

Recently someone likened not606 to a bit like a pub where people got on well and chatted about things football.

The trouble is on the internet you end up saying things you don't mean and wouldn't say face to face.

If this site was really like a pub you would put your arms around PompeyMeowth, PompeyLampras and DevonFrattoniser and try to lift them by saying we know what it is like mate and it is horrid. We wouldn't wish it on anyone but you just wait it will be alright in the end. Right what are you drinking and you would buy them all a drink and you would end up swapping stories about the idiots who run football and you would laugh like drains and stagger home pissed as newts saying we all love each other and we will be the best of mates for life.

So I am going to pretend I have met everyone down the pub and we are all now life long friends and I don't give a toss what the score is on Saturday just so long as our new found friendship is not damaged and that we can laugh at football and we can laugh at ourselves.

I was just waiting for St Godders to say, "hey..... I bloody love you, I do........

As Oscar Wilde put it, "work is the curse of the drinking classes":)

When I meet Pompey fans in the flesh (so to speak) I do a sad little grimace and listen to their woes with occasional nods of agreement, then talk about Saints having their 33 million debt written off....tad insensitive do you think? Lets make today the 'Hug a Pompey Fan Day' <hug>

Say what you mean and mean what you say is a motto I have lived by all my life. My Children and my grandchildren live by that also.
It is true that a few say things behind a computer that they wouldn't/couldn't in the street. That as they say perhaps is human nature. Perhaps it should be remembered that when you are typing there is no tone of voice to follow there is no facial expression. So it is easy to misinterpret what someone has said or actually meant by a comment. We all know that even in face to face conversation what is actually said can be totally misunderstood or misinterpreted. So it is no wonder that disagreements occur on occasion.

Bit of a generalisation! As the originator of the Not606 pub, I was making a point about the need to keep the tone reasonable. If there are too many noisy and abusive types in a pub then people will leave and find a nicer one. St Godders has extended the metaphor saying that keyboard warriors say things to each other on a message board that they wouldn't dream of saying face to face in the pub and that if we met the Pompey lads as individuals then we would find it difficult to be unsympathetic as what is happening to their club is awful and not their fault. Is that his tongue making his cheek poke out slightly? Who can say!

If you go on the Echo site, every thread starts off reasonably then deteriorates into the stupid. Don't like swearing, but can take it as part of an argument but in some cases the whole post is just childish. It's a shame because then people who might have something to say just don't bother.

Particularly the Saints bit of it. Saints Not 606 is challenging for Champions League places, the quality is so high!

Well said Fran........Without having some form of moderation a lot of these so called forums go to the dogs and quickly. They get some very good discussion points on that site occasionally, that quickly deteriorates into an exchange of insults as soon as someone disagrees or goes against the run of play so to speak. So the occasional poster who when they do post usually contribute sound argument, do not do so because of this abuse. Thankfully on this site in the main that rarely happens although it does now and again unfortunately.
I think that is a credit to the posters on this site. Channon, Brendy and myself receive more and more pm's to warn us if something seems to be getting out of hand or asking us to whisper in someones ear. By you all doing this we can often take the heat out of things before they really begin to get out of hand. So please bear this in mind folks but do pat yourselves on the back for helping to keep a good site going so smoothly.

The very lovely Mrs Godders<smooch> often whispers in my ear Beddy but I wouldn't dream of telling anyone what she says.

The only thing Mrs Fodder whispers in mine these days in something like, "put the bins round, will you?":(

I misread that first time, I thought it said = whispers in my ear "BEDDY", now that would be a bit worrying and misconstrued, especially if it happened in the middle of SM!
