Oh for a tram system like this in Bristol. But I won't live long enough to see even the Port is head line reopened, will I?
Yet more evidence that Bristol is light years behind the rest of the country. How many false dawns have there been for light rail/metro systems to ease the worsening congestion ? Yesterday evening it took me 55 minutes to get from the bottom of the M32 to home. In that time I could have driven from Bristol to Reading !! I've also noticed that Bristol is never on the map of national weather forecasts and I've worked out why. They show the location and name of Cardiff instead given that it's the capital of Wales and only 40 odd miles away. We're even in Cardiff's shadow when it comes to the weather !
I'm a student in Nottingham and we have a tram here, it's so good, it's always on time (99.8% of the time I think) it's efficient, Eco friendly and cheap. I cannot understand why Bristol does not have one.
I like going to Sheffield games - the wife and I stay near Meadowhall shopping centre - I get the tram from there to either Bramall Lane or Hillsborough. We also use the tram in the evening to go into central Sheffield. Great service - on time & clean
Surely Bristol had Trams once....back in the 20's or 30's perhaps? Obviously it was deemed too modern and exciting for ye olde city of Bristol so was demolished some time back...
Through the village green I would think Didn't I hear recently that someone got mown down by a tram in Manchester ? First time I went there the tram system left me a near nervous wreck - no lights/indicators/brakes/operational noises They look nice and European, but too bloody dangerous if you ask me-and they never stop
Bristol did have trams once upon a time I dont think the geographics of the city help either with lots of fairly big hills which might be too much for trams ?
"I've also noticed that Bristol is never on the map of national weather forecasts and I've worked out why. We're even in Cardiff's shadow when it comes to the weather " You may remember the weather did indeed use to show Bristol as the main west area on all weather maps until The welsh kicked up a stink about being 'a Capital City' and Why wasn't south Wales represented on a map !! whinging Taffs.. and they changed it to much complaint from Bristol residents. i reckon late 70's early 80's. We have played second fiddle in lots of ways since..
Too many Stella's over the years - that's my excuse anyway I've worked in Grenoble and in Krakow and both have cheap, and effective tram systems but both are very flat
It did indeed mate. Not sure when it was decommissioned but if you go into the churchyard of St Mary Redcliffe you will find a tramline sticking up out of the ground - it was blown there in the blitz and left as a memorial. There is a plaque explaining about it. My mum used to take me there as a kid in the 60s.
