Heading into the final game of the season and the League Two Table is incredibly close at the top. Doncaster have been leading the pack for a while but a string of bad result have seen Plymouth and Portsmouth claw their way into the title race.

For the month of April Doncaster have recorded two wins, one draw and three loses and are currently on a streak of three consecutive losses. This has taken the prospect of winning the title out of their hands as they lost the top spot yesterday to Plymouth. With their superior goal differance if they draw their final game against Hartlepool and Plymouth lose then Doncaster are champion but they really need a win to keep the pressure on Plymouth and give them the best chance to win the title.

Plymouth in April are undefeated and have recorded four wins and two draws. Their victory over Crewe put them in the commanding position in the title race but they are far from secure. Having the lowest goal differance of the three contender they must win their final game against Grimsby to be absolutely certain of winning the title, and if they can only manage a draw then it is out of their hands and they have to hope Doncaster and Pompey lose.

Pompey too are undefeated in the month of April and have the best form having recorded five wins and a draw, however sitting in third and two points behind the leader they must win their final game against Cheltenham to be in with a shot of winning the title, and are reliant on Plymouth and Doncaster losing or drawing.

    So the forumla is:

    • Plymouth, Doncaster and Pompey get the same result - Plymouth champions, Doncaster 2nd, Pompey 3rd
    • Plymouth win, Doncaster draw or lose, Pompey win - Plymouth Champions, Pompey 2nd, Doncaster 3rd
    • Plymouth win, Doncaster draw or lose, Pompey draw or lose - Plymouth Champions, Doncaster 2nd, Pompey 3rd
    • Doncaster win, Plymouth draw or lose, Pompey draw or lose - Doncaster Champions, Plymouth 2nd, Pompey 3rd
    • Doncaster win, Plymouth draw or lose, Pompey win - Doncaster Champions, Pompey 2nd, Plymouth 3rd
    • Pompey win, Doncaster draw or lose, Plymouth draw or lose - Pompey Champions, Plymouth 2nd, Doncaster 3rd

So it's very tight and any of them can pick up the League Two Title this season.

If Pompey win the title they will join four other clubs as the only clubs to have been champions at every level of professional English football, those four are:

    • Sheffield United - champions of the top teir in 1897/98, the second teir in 1952/53, the third tier in 2016/17 and the fourth teir in 1981/82
    • Burnley - champions of the top teir in 1920/21 and 1959/60, the second teir in 1897/98, 1972/73 and 2015/16, the third teir 1981/82, and the fourth tier in 1991/92
    • Wolves - champions of the top teir in 1953/54, 1957/58 and 1958/59, the second teir in 1931/32, 1976/77 and 2008/09, the third teir in 1923/24, 1988/89 and 2013/14, and the fourth tier in 1987/88
    • Preston North End - champions of the top teir 1888/89 and 1889/90, the second teir in 1903/04, 1912/13 and 1950/51, the third tier in 1970/71 and 1999/2000, and the fourth tier in 1995//96

Good stats MAJR....be nice to join that list of real old school names of football history. One of them may slip up, not sure both will....we just need to win and leave the rest in the lap of the Gods.

Each set of supporters will be doing what you have just done with a thread giving the numerous scenarios for next Saturday. Each will no doubt be hoping that one or both of the other two will fall over and they won't. On our board there are doubts being cast about Hartlepool playing out of their skin to save their league status at the expense of Doncaster for example and so on. Ourselves being talked up because we are away and have the best record in the league for results away from home.

All I will say is best of luck to all three teams and may it be a clean contest with winner takes all. All 3 teams deserve it in their own way so it won't be lucky whoever it is.
