Bexleyboy said only two days ago that he was told face-to-face by one of the owners of Welling United that Chris Parkes had told him (the Welling owner) that the take-over would be completed before Welling play Charlton on July 14th. So we only have three weeks left to wait at most.
Does it suit Duchatelet to have a duff buyer ? It may help smoke out other buyers who do have the funds. What Duchatelet is doing with the Aussies is akin to keeping an ugly girlfriend on the go for 14 months ...no interest other than the occasional bunk up
There it is, in black and white. Not a tweet or an article from an online newspaper or a fanzine. An official statement from Charlton Athletic Football Club. Jointly produced with the new investors. It does fall short of stating that there will be a take-over, but it does say the take-over is expected. I read that as meaning the process of the take-over is essentially going forward. Granted there is no time frame mentioned at all, and the commitment of the current ownership to continue running the Club in the meantime indicates the process may still take weeks or months to be completed (rather than days). But this statement has removed my doubts. I am content to believe that this has been published in good faith, and that the take-over is now very likely to happen in the next few weeks, or perhaps a month or two down the line.
Money is no object for some... It's a real comfort to get all this inside information from our wide array of ITK posters.
The days when a newsflash like that might thrill me are long gone. Murray stated in february that the takeover would be completed in weeks, which was also a sort of official statement, albeit from the village idiot. I can't see much in this to set the pulse racing. The lengths of tge delay simply make me wonder whether this nid won't simply leave us with an Aussie version of the Belgians. It's going to need a lot more than rubbish about 'aiming for the Prem in four years' to convince me tgere's a difference between the new boss and the old one right now.
Agreed. You can't plan anything like that in football, especially from the other side of the globe. Let's just get some good players in who know where the goal is.
I don't think its likely the Australian Football consortium will run the Club in a manner which is in any way similar to that of Roland Duchatelet. My main worry (not a huge one but worth mentioning) is the opposite - that the incoming administration might allow some important decisions to be swayed too much by trying to be popular with most of the fan base. I think most fans want to feel the owners at least respect them, but they don't necessarily want to be pandered to or expect every decision made to be exactly what they might personally want. I hope that the new owners don't patronise fans on the pretext of showing them respect.
One of the new investors? Another potential investor is Philip Aiken, chairman of construction giants Balfour Beatty, who is originally from Melbourne but now lives in London.
Unless I have misunderstood or unless something has changed, I thought Phillip Aiken was going to be appointed Non-Executive Chairman at CAFC. The 'Non-Executive' part of his title is very important. His job will be to advise on good business practice and keep the rest of the board (the executives) on their toes. He will not be making policy or executive decisions (like a CEO would). I did not think he was going to be investing any of his own money. Mr Aiken did the same Non-Executive Chairman / Director job for Balfour Beatty and the National Grid among other organisations. Our Club will be investing in him (his extensive board experience and widely recognised business talents) rather than him investing in the Club.
