Since ACS has started a great thread on the signings made,

I decided we could get ourselves going again with the transfer sales made over the years.

    Best transfer sales:

-Andy Carroll , do we even need to dispute this?
-Jonathan Woodgate to Real Madrid , this one was a good move by us and bad move by Real Madrid to have bought him. He was rarely seen out of the treatment table and there really was no value for money for him
-Seb Bassong , as someone mentioned in the other thread, we got him for a wee transfer fee and sold him, when we were relegated(which normally means transfer fees are even lower since we are forced to slash wages) for 8 million

    Worst transfer sales:
Note: I didn't take into account the players insistence on moving or other mitigating factors, just by purely the transfer away from our club at that time

    -Andy Cole
    -David Ginola
    -Craig Bellamy
    -James Milner

    Honourable mentions
    -Jose Enrique
    -Kevin Nolan
    -Charles N'Zogbia
    -Demba Ba

Best- Carroll / Chopra / Boumsong (a miracle Juve paid anything)
Worst- Ferdinand / Ginola / Gascoigne / Beardsley / Ba

Why Chopra though? He was sold to Cardiff for 500k.

Well, I know how much help he gave us during the derby, but ultimately that was just 1 match where he got to showcase what he could do for us

    Best - Carroll, Boumsong, Woodgate

Worst - Gascoigne, Waddle, Beardsley - in hindsight, the timings of selling these guys have probably had repercussions far greater than the few bob we got for them. Westwood/McFaul. The good ol' days.

Among the worst was Andy Cole at that time, for sure. But then you look back and realize he paved the way for Shearer and it's almost forgotten. Ferdinand and Ginola were both fairly inexplicable to me - just didn't get it. But the three I named weren't even remotely replaced and were just kicks in the balls for the geordie faithful. When was the last time you got excited about a local lad? (apart from Shola, of course...)

Last time? Andy Carroll in the championship for me.

Yeah but you're right though. Even Gary Speed going for 300k was a horrible deal, considering he played several more years at Bolton. And of course, there's Aaron Hughes, who was like our utility defender a la James Perch.
