I consider that, realistically, only the current top five are capable of gaining automatic promotion.
I do not believe that City will implode in the same way that Orient did last season.

Of the others just below, maybe Bradford City will make it into the playoffs.

 

Agree about the Top 5 being the only ones capabale of being in the automatic slots - I have a sneaky feeling for Rochdale in the other play-off place

 

at the halfway stage this is the top half of the table, whilst the top 4 are close 5th and 6th have a gap of 2 wins v 2 losses

not exactly rewriting the league table, you will note, above, most teams have played 27 games, but that did not occur on the same week!
below PNE there is a big gap so points /games below there don't really have effect.....yet
After every 6 or 7 games I divide the table into top "12" (or as close as possible based on points), and the bottom.
Walsall whom we play at WEMBLEY have an amazing record against teams in top 12... 25 of 36 points coming from them
whereas PNE have taken 29 of 47 against teams in the bottom ranks
even Yeovil with 18 of their 25 is against teams in top half!.... whilst most of the bottom teams had them from teams around them..thats why Yeovil after 27 games were bottom!

after 23 games there is obviously a reversal of fixtures, so it will be interesting to see how things fare, CITY have played 4 reverses for 10 points PNE 5 for 5 points!

ASSUMING city get their act together and win then, they will have played 30 games for 64 points 7 POINTS AHEAD
SHOULD DISASTER STRIKE TWICE AND ANOTHER LOSS..... = 30 GAMES 61 PTS
whereas MKD Chesterfld, Peterbro, will have actually played 31.
10pm in 9 days time we will have the clearest picture with 10 of the top 16 all having played 32 games

City maintain their top position in a truer table as most have caught up with the 2 or 3 games they had in hand.
City were top after 23 games, top after 28 games and go into the next 5 games at the top
Doncaster were 6th after 23 games but after dropping to 13th have clawed their way back to 6th along with Bradford
Sheffields bullish intent after their cup run is all but finished 20 points behind us 10 behind 2nd.
7 pts cover the middle 12 teams, Colchster's promise "short lived" as the bottom 5 become more detached
