On the telly now, classic. Only film I have seen which is better than the book. When Harry Lime appears in the Vienese doorway, one of the defining moments of cinematography. Oh it's nice to be on hols.
Seen it, love the zither, the cuckoo clock speech, the shadows, and yes Harry Lime's entrance is sublime. If you like the Third Man, try The Night of the Hunter, another marvellous film noir. The Third Man theme http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4JpDUMXBqo
Sure is Dev. Everything about the film is absolute perfection. The jagged angular cinematography was batantly copied in East Of Eden.
Which was a technique pioneered in early European films in the 20s and 30s like The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.
Yeah you're right ST. Temporarily forgot about that. And Robert Mitchum?? Wonderful. Old Sleepy Eyes.
I recently read All Quiet on the Western Front and then watched the film, the original 1930 version. I mean like, the film is good but the book is a marvellous read. Anyway, one of the actors who played a soldier in the film (and who was 20 at the time of the film) is sill alive, the old boy is well into his hundreds, probably the oldest surviving actor there is. He's even older than Eli Wallach (96) and Kirk Douglas (95).
You watched the wrong one Bib, IMDB gives the original a 8.1 rating out of 10 compared to 7 for John Boy's efforts. Have you read the book?
