The true test of a fan is sticking by the player and manager in truly trying times. We lost 5-2 to the goons and it was our 3rd defeat on the trot and already the AVB and or Levy are to blame arguements are out. We played badly and lost to wigan. We played better against man city without 4 important players (Dembele; BAE;Parker and Kaboul) and narrowly lost. We played well yesterday with only 10 men for 70 minutes and 5-2 was very harsh ... again we were without all the above players. These are not difficult times...so why the whining? Some of those on here sound like the plastics that pretend to represent Man utd, city, chelsea and the goons on these boards and the radio phone ins after a loss. We are 4 or 5 points off 4th... these players are coming back and others around us will have injury problems etc. Before a ball was kicked the top 3 was predicted to be Chelsea; Man City and Man Utd (in some order or other) with arsenal 4th and us fighting with Everton and the Toon for 5-7th. Last season people complained about redknapps lack of rotation and tactics (which is fair enough); then some complained he was sacked (fair enough again); some complained about AVB (ditto) some complained that we cant compete in the transfer as clubs are spending stupid money on players and we should be pleased Levy is not putting our club at risk of doing a Leeds(again fair enough) some complain that Levy should just pay out whatever is needed.... Some of those complaining on here have supported all these arguments even though they are contradictory .... Please stop complaining...offer insights...constructive criticism etc. but please stop whining. We need to give the players and the manager a chance to build ... If some of you were around in the 70's or these boards were there'd have been calls for Keith Burkinshaws head... anyone remember us getting spanked 7-2 against Derby? Nearly getting relegated? Getting relegated? losing 7 nil at liverpool? or 5-0 AT HOME to the goons? or taking 3 matches to beat non league Altringham in the cup? It took him 5 years but he built that fabulous team of the early 80's. Leave the knee jerk rubbish to the plastics. old man rant over
Everyone's entitled to their opinion and whilst the over the top negativity aimed at AVB, in particular, can be a bit frustrating it doesn't make them less of a fan. As long as they're supporting the team when we play, that's the important thing. Personally I'll always be biased to Spurs and an optimist even when we're going through a bad patch, I much prefer it that way
completely agree RCL The manager needs time and so do the players. In addition, the constrictive criticism (and it is constructive criticism and not complaining) is that Levy needs to back his man and change the approach which hasn't worked for a couple of years. If we can make up for this in Jan, we're going to be on the right track. I think AVB has done very well with all things considered and am really looking forward to him having first team players back, and the additional players he needs to make his ideas work.
While I agree in principal RCL and I'll be the first to admit that I've complained/ moaned at AVB (and Levy) on numerous occasions, I do try backing every one of my points with valid reasoning rather than just saying "AVB's sh*t", "Huddlestone's f*cking useless at the moment" etc which some have said. That being said though, I think we can all agree that while many of us have different views on how the team/ manager/ chairman can do better and who we should aim criticism at, we all do this because we want one thing - We love Spurs and want our team to be successful.
Exactly as fans we surely all want the team to succeed. My many, many criticisms of ENIC, AVB, whoever, are always based on that premise. However, I think when you're at the ground, you have to put all the negativity aside, well as much as humanly possible, and be a positive force for the team on the day. You have to back the team that's out there, even if you wanted a different one, that's my view anyway.
Gh10, I make you right on that. As a st holder I go to all home games and quite a few away games. Regardless of who is playing, what formation or tactics etc I get behind our team. There's a couple of players in our line ups that I really don't rate and wish to never see them wear the shirt again, but for 90 minutes I get behind them. C. O. Y. S
I have watched this thread grow, out of the ash of my critique of AVB, and have been ashamed of its self-serving sentiments. Sure, AVB might well save us. But, then again, he might just continue down the sorry path he has started out on (not just with us, but with the Chavs before us), and we may end up worse off than under the Redknapp that most of you vilified. So far, I have seen more reasons to suspect that he will fail that he will succeed. But, please, keep on deluding yourselves. I will sit back quietly, and await my turn to remind you all your misplaced trust. It will give me no pleasure in my doing that. Certainly, none more than some of the pleasure that some of you assholes seem to have taken in shouting me down.
We've been in this sort of position before and we ALL know the remedy don't we? We just need a win to kick start us again and then the fans will be praising everything that the coach does. We don't know what AVB is capable of over the course of a full season as he was sacked very early on at Chelsea. What would have happened had he stayed? We don't know but it could have been that Chelsea were on a blip and needed a win and away they would go again. It could be the same with us and AVB,we are on a blip so let's have a win and who knows. I still say that he should stay but the true fan wants what's best for the whole team regardless of who's in charge.
Wrong. The test of a true long-standing fan is to spot, as early on as he possibly can, when we are being royally fcuked by a useless manager, and to voice his opinion as loudly and as vocally as possible. For you meek and mild I'll-wait-and-see-because-I-am-too-much-of-a-sheep-to-make-early-waves fans who will have given the benefit of doubt to Hilter fans, support the team in your own way. I'll think for myself, but thank you, anyway. Good god! i truly hope so.
Because calling all of us who want to stand behind our current team and current manager Sheep is out of line. You have your view which is fine, but don't be so contemptuous of the rest of us. Our views are valid too. And the Hitler jibe makes it worse.
I've been a Spurs supporter for over half a century now. Through it all, the glory, glory days of the double, the first English club to win a European trophy, right through to relegation in the late seventies. There have been times of sheer delight, times of utter despair, and everything in between. Through all that I've never even thought of changing allegiance. I couldn't even imagine supporting another club. (Well there is one other club I do regularly support - that's whoever is playing Arsenal that week) I suppose for me., that's the definition of a fan. You may like what's going on with the club - you may hate what's happening. You may moan and bitch about things, but you stick with it through everything.
Spot on Spain except I support two teams,Spurs through thick and thin and whoever is playing Chelsea. I lost interest for a while after Santini and it was 3 or 4 months later I looked again and saw Jol in charge. I also lost interest when Ramos was with us but I perked up when Arry arrived. I've never thought of switching allegiance but Spurs can pee me off at times and I lose interest.
Don't part quote me to make a point. Team and manager go together. Anyway it was the insults I didn't like. You can citicise who you like, but I don't like it when Spurs fans turn on Spurs fans.
How naive are you? So, you will have been the first to have stepped up when I was criticised for merely expressing my opinion? Oh, wait... no, you were not.
