Won on his 170th start at the age of 14! Whether its a GP1 or the Mickey Mouse race it probably was I'll have a gallon of what he's on!
Was delighted to see him win, off the top of my head I can't think of an older winner of a flat race in the UK, is it a record? Tommo was going nuts when he came through the pack travelling strongly. cracking ride by Hayley Turner aswell, Hughes would of been proud of that hold up ride! He may not be a top G1 performer, but I always raise a smile when I see the old boy, down to run in the morning, and he still looks like he can go on and on, let's hope the handicapper goes easy on him
Fantastic news. Obviously loves his racing and is well looked after. Deserves a loving retirement home, if he hasn't already got one.
He wont be retiring Ron, he's on a roll now, I'd imagine we will see him on a racetrack in the next few days, before the rise in the weights comes into affect
This reminded me of a prolific winner at 13 but I can't remember if he ran as a 14 year old. Thought I would look him up but still can't establish if he won, or ran, as a 14yo. Crudwell was Britain's most prolific winner of the 20th century. He won four races over hurdles and 39 over fences between 1950 and 1960, including the Welsh Grand National ('56). His seven wins on the Flat took his tally to 50 wins from 108 starts, a post-war British record.
Tatling must enjoy his day trips out and about at the course,I'm pleased for the owners who keep sending him out.both must enjoy a day at the races.
The ride by Turner was superb, they tell jockeys not to use the whip and Turner showed how to time it perfectly on the old boy. He is a superb horse to watch and he made his new owner very proud with the win. Shame that he isn't going to be retired but whilst he still loves the job they can't really let him down. Good boy!!!
There was a 14 year old winner in the sixties but can't remember the name - began with P I think. Like that's of any use!
I found a horse called Hermosilla from the US that won 7 races after turning 13. I don't know if it won at 14 or 15, but retired at the latter age. Another old timer was from the US was Alpena Magic which retired in 2007 aged 17. It won at 14 in 2004. The oldest horse to win a race was Revenge at Shrewsbury in 1790, aged 18. The oldest thoroughbred was Tango Duke who died in 1978 aged 42. Fasted recorded speed by a thoroughbred. 43.26mph Feb 5 1945 Mexico City. When horse meat is served raw in Japan, it's called "Cherry Blossom."
Redoubtable won as a 14 year-old for David Chapman (Ruth Carr’s grandfather) back in 2005. Amazingly, Redoubtable also won 4 races when aged 13!
Hello, first post here, posted intermittently (as And) on 606. I am (almost) certain there was a 60s/70s sprinter called Le Garcon D'Or who won at 14. But he wasn't the high-flyer that The Tatling was. What was really lovely about Tatt's win was that it was a complete hands and heels job - yet he had to react really smartly and did so, to have gone for his gap. Can't wait to see how he does at Bath.
