Yeah fair enough. When I was a youngster, my dad took me and my brother to watch Sunderland on the pre season tour of Belgium. It was back in the Peter Reid days. We checked into the hotel, and by utter chance it was the same hotel as the Sunderland team and management were staying in. I had 3 or 4 days in the hotel seeing the players every day. Some players were more approachable than others, Mickey Gray didn’t have a second for you but up the other end of the scale was Phillips. Phillips went out of his way to speak with us, every time we see him. He was the superstar of the squad, but didn’t act like it. Even in his private time away from supporters, he still made time for 2 young supporters in me and my brother. Why do I think he done it? Because he cares, he appreciates the club and supporters, and is willing to give a bit back.
You have a very short memory mate Super Kevin Philips will always be Super Kevin Philips to me mate he can say what the hell he likes no other player has ever had me crying with happiness the way he has and that smile when a shot goes in Priceless.
I had fond memories of SKP in his prime with us. Can’t believe he hasn’t shown more positivity about the takeover though, that’s changed everything in my opinion
Nothing wrong with my memory whatsoever, I was at most of the games he played. I'm just not naïve enough to think people are the same off the pitch as they are when they're kissing the badge. When Martin O'Neill was being talked about as a lifelong Sunderland supporter I laughed, he just had a crush on Big Charlie. People have a responsibility for what they say, especially when they're being paid to, and I think Phillips was very poor in his choice of words and attitude. I'd be pleased if I never hear him speak about us again, same goes for Marco .... ... I prefer the memories.
Rose tinted specs ........remember SKP basically gave up towards the end of his time here, I didn't like that at all, the fans didn't deserve that disrespect.
To be fair, I watched Phillips interview and was rather dismayed, Even Jim White was trying to cajole him and get some sort of passion from him and failed He was deadpan, not one bit of excitement whatsoever, every little piece of enthusiasm was followed with a “but”. Even when asked what he would do if Sunderland came calling, “yeah I’d consider it” Consider it? you are doing **** all of note and haven’t really since you retired from playing

Absolutely right, he did give up at the end. Still Super Kev as a player but he is often critical / negative of us in interviews.
Phillips was and is a Sunderland legend. We will never see a Sunderland player win a golden boot again in any of our lifetimes
He was a great player for us I agree but it should also be remembered that without the outstanding service he got from big Niall he maybe wouldn't have had such a successful career with us.
Quinn was a great partner but I have absolutely no doubt that Phillips would’ve scored goals regardless. He was a fantastic finisher regardless of what Quinn brought to the side.
I’ll send him an invite to mine to watch the match this afternoon! That’ll take the number of SAFC fans in Lugano to 3....
