Hahaha, my grandfatha used to finish off his 'special advice' to us young'uns with that phrase! Love it, cause I've not heard it for ages.

Probably, but therein lies the history of Mr Smith, from which we have never really recovered.
No need for creativity IMO. Just get this ridiculous nonsense to court.

My point is circumventing rules is a risky path to take as evidenced by previous attempts to do so from which the club has never really recovered. It is not really that hard to understand. You play with fire and you get burned.

I think all count towards the cap (I could be wrong). Promotion bonuses don’t but I can’t see many players would want to sign on those terms.

It does seem to be fairly watertight (sod’s law that would be the one thing the EFL have actually managed to do well).

It has. You've got to see the good things in everything.
You've just brought back memories of my grandfatha chasing butterflies off his cabbages with an owld wooden badminton racket. Priceless! :emoticon-0106-cryin:emoticon-0111-blush

Just get the new players to set up a sports clothing company and then give them the contract for 3 years to supply the club's kit.

Works for the Tories with PPE so no doubt we can get around the salary cap in the same way.

In the same way that you can 'hire a cleaner' or other services where you pay for a service rather than their wages, could we not just pay an agent that 'owns' a player a service fee? What they actually pay the player is down to them, nothing to do with us. So free agents etc. Not sure how feasible it is, just thinking out aloud.

It might be " watertight" in itself. But is so blatantly a restraint of trade it would not last long in court. Any serious club would challenge it, and if we do not, once the new owner has himself established, I'd say that is a bit of a cause for concern.

If they are to have salary caps then it should be for all leagues not just 2. It makes no sense if you do manage to get promoted you then have to try and find better players or increase the wages of your best players just to keep them. Even then if you get relegated again you are back to square 1 whole thing is a f#####g mess as far as I am concerned. Hope the club challenges the EFL as they are a total screw up from start to finish. Then what about the players would not be surprised to see one of them take EFL to court like Bosman did back in the day as the league are now restricting their earning potential as well which can't be right

They should be in touch with other clubs and make a joint challenge to the EFL.

I'd expect that will be close to the top of Rodwell's tasks when the takeover is announced.

Yep, you would really hope so mind. I'd like to hear a lawyer's view on this, but unless all clubs voted for it, which I believe they didn't, then it seems it can have no hope of being robust enough to survive a legal challenge

If it is legal, then God help us all, never mind football.

So the club have issued a statement but you choose to believe the word of an employee (player) and someone involved with media? It wasn't Storey was it?
