We always seem to talk about how deep the team likes to sit in games, on Saturday we discussed how the defensive midfielders barely put in any tackles or pressed especially when they had the opportunity to do so, they seem to back off to certain degree only committing to a challenge when the Hull players reached a certain area, I swear we're deploying a zonal system, next time we play observe where the two central midfielders are situated, I understand the concept of having layers so it's difficult to play through but our midfield seems to maintain a very narrow area between themselves and the defence.

It shuts down space in the most dangerous area. I think you're right, but that was only the case up until half time.

The flaw I see with this is it allows them too much space and time, you could say it buys us time to organise our lines too, however sometimes I'd like to see things nipped in the bud so to speak to keep them on the back foot. I'd like to see one midfielder sweep things up in front of the defence and the other deployed more forward or if they play with two defensive midfielders, one of them commit to tackle or press whilst the other get's back to cover the lines.

True. I think this is more likely when Bassong is in the team so we have some pace to cover any problem situations. Also at home.

It doesn't have to give too much space, but it does rely on your front four harrying effectively.
