Martin O'Neill ready to offload SAFC stars to raise cash Apr 22 2012 by James Hunter, Sunday Sun MARTIN OâNEILL is preparing for a summer clear-out to finance his rebuilding plans. The Black Cats boss will be given money to spend in the transfer market, but owner Ellis Short has told OâNeill that he must also generate cash by getting rid of players with no future on Wearside. OâNeill has been at the helm for four months and has already made his mind up which of the players he wants to keep and which are surplus to requirements. The likes of Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan and Paraguay midfielder Cristian Riveros seem certain to be on their way out after spending the season on loan in the Middle East and Turkey respectively, as does defender George McCartney, who has spent the season with his former club West Ham. Marcos Angeleriâs miserable stay in England is also set to come to an end, with the Argentinian defender hankering for a return to his homeland now he has returned to full fitness. And Egyptian wideman Ahmed Elmohamady admitted this week that he may have to move on in the summer, and West Ham could offer him a way out if they return to the Premier League. Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon is likely leave on a Bosman free transfer when his contract runs out at the end of June. Sunderland paid £9m for him five years ago but his injury record â and the form of Simon Mignolet and Keiren Westwood â make it unlikely the Black Cats will offer him a new deal. The on-loan trio of Nicklas Bendtner, Wayne Bridge and Sotirios Kyrgiakos will also return to their clubs at the end of the season. If OâNeill can offload all those fringe players, it would take a huge chunk out of Sunderlandâs wage bill and that money would be available for new signings. The Black Cats have been linked with Wolves striker Steven Fletcher and Wigan winger Victor Moses, but OâNeill will wait until after a planned meeting with Short before finalising his targets. http://www.sundaysun.co.uk/sport/su...load-safc-stars-to-raise-cash-79310-30810570/ I have this paper saved as a fave, realy enjoy Eddie Eats.
