Fame or Infamy?
Most people would like to be valued by others for their talents, intellect, personality etc. This recognition gives a person confidence and self-justification. Itâs called fame and deep down we all want a bit of it.
However most self-obsessed people strive to achieve fame purely because they crave the attention it brings, but these people are usually far more transparent than they appreciate and so they gain no true respect. This comes as a too large a blow to their egos until they have to do something about it. The easy solution is infamy.
Like fame infamy brings plenty of attention but you donât have to be special in any way to get it. The dullest non-entities can achieve infamy by simply being obnoxious. Of course this attention is always negative, but it is surprising how easily sad victims delude themselves that they are in fact famous. Some even seem to develop a form of masochism where they need the abuse like a drug.
We all recognise the infamous people on this forum and also those who are starting to be tempted towards it.
To the infamous I can only say that we know you better than you know yourselves. You are not mysterious or witty or complex or clever, you are just inadequate, pitiful and irrelevant.
To those who find the idea of infamy appealing please consider that it is only a form of self-deception. You can hide from yourself but that doesnât mean others canât see you.
So ends the Sunday sermon.
