There are also disadvantages. In the shadow of Liverpool and likely to remain. Limited ability to market themselves as a result [this has been discussed on TV a while ago; those views of a marketing expert]. Upto very recently, practically penniless, so very limited on what they can do financially unless they offload Lukaku, who's transfer-in practically wiped them out. At the moment all they have is their history, and that counts for very little these days unless a club continues to be successful. And Martinez has taken them backwards significantly. Tbh, I think they are a club who have stalled, and it's just in time that they've acquired new owners. For their sake they need them not to be Randy Learner types.

I'm not saying now and I'm not saying he would. I'm just saying that there could be a temptation.

That's just blinkered vision people saying it's not a step up. Everton with a shed load of money and a good squad and big following, or Southampton and an OK amount of money with a good squad? You are right about the Ifs... Lots of them, but we are only hypothesising. If they have new owners with very deep pockets willing to spend, a manager may be tempted by that rather than a cautious approach at another club.

You've also listed some advantages of going there.

After all, who wants to follow salesman of the year into a job?

Then it just depends on how you interpret these things. Personally, I think Everton are in a proper spot of bother, and it's going to take a few years to get them back where one would think an Everton club should be. There is also the example of Aston Villa. Loads of money, didn't use it wisely.
 
On this subject, I was listening to 606 on Sunday for a while and Robbie Savage was saying that if Arsenal wanted Koeman he would definitely go there. An Arsenal fan who was online at the time said that Ronald wouldn't want to leave Southampton now because of what's being built here. Made me feel quite proud.

I agree, but a good manager will back himself to put it right.
 
Everton are not losing players because they have been pretty crap. They have one player that big teams will want in Lukaku, he will probably go for 45 mil which is not a great return on the 30 they paid for him. At least we double our money. Stones has done himself no favours, they need a manager like poch as they will have some excellent young players coming through

I think his situation at Southampton is far better, and at the moment, has more potential. The very reasons for him coming here still hold true. I see very little reason why he would want to go to Everton. People might say say money, but the most memorable thing Koeman said about coming to Southampton was that we didn't talk about money. We talked about the project. That's only in its second year. And in any case, I don't know why we're even talking about Koeman going anywhere. How many times has he said he staying at Southampton? Probably over a dozen. The media never take notice though. They all think managers are like Pinocchio.

Pochettino has been loyal to Spurs though because he buys into their vision, he could have courted Man Utd, Arsenal, Real if he'd wanted to...

All we are doing is discussing what came up in the media. Why do people get offended at that? It is just discussing the merits or not, not saying he is off and I can only speak for myself, but I don't believe this for a minute however I can see both sides of the coin. I can see that Everton could be viewed as a sleeping giant and with the right backers a club that could offer the chance for a young up and coming manager to make a name for himself. That can be done here too. Taking on a new challenge doesn't always mean taking on the most obvious one, or even a current successful one. Ronald has hinted at frustration on spending earlier in the season.

Lummy we are a bit jumpy aren't we. How on earth are we going to compete and become a larger club if we keep letting our star people go?
Is it not time the board stuck there necks out and said enough is enough?
Ron has said he will stick to his contract and I believe he will. The only exception which would be written into his contract was if his country came calling.
I believe the board have been a bit weak in the past although I can see why but that will have to change if we are to truly progress. They can start by increasing their offer to Ron, perhaps even doubling his money they should be able to afford it. They have to find the resources to pay for the stars and to start giving them decent packages to try and keep them.
We used to have decent players and managers in the past and we used to be able to mainly keep them, why can't that happen again?
 
I kinda can't see Koeman going to Everton.

Saints can offer him one thing that no one else can, which is the ability to see "the project" through to its fruition. Which I think would be personally satisfying (but as well also immensely increase his career opportunities down the line).

Maybe he doesn't care about that, though. Maybe he just wants more money personally, or more of a transfer budget to play with, or maybe he sees this project as completed and wants to start a new, more interesting one. But in that situation, I think there are teams that would want him that could offer him more exciting projects, or more money, or more budge or possibly all three compared to Everton.

The other thing is, that Koeman appears to prefer to plan ahead, make his move, and then settle in and finish his contract if possible. So an Everton offer wouldn't just have to be the best offer on the table, it'd have to be the best offer Koeman thinks he will get in the next 4-5 years

I also wonder if Koeman would work out an arrangement where he leaves but his brother becomes manager here. For Saints it might be attractive as it would be a smooth transition. And I'm guessing Erwin would might like a crack at a managerial job again, instead of following his brother everywhere.
