If we do fail to be promoted this season and the summer transfer window is needed to strengthen our bid for promotion in 2012/13, will the club account for the following sums when formulating Barmbyâs transfer budget? : Unspent âmillionsâ quoted by HCAFC for January window - (Letâs be modest and say £2million) Note; This figure was never qualified as dependant on player sales. Money saved on Pearsonâs wages â say £300,000 Money gained from Leicester / Pearson compensation - say £1million Bullard compensation saved â say £2.3million (after legal fees deducted) Money usually allocated to a club (with promotion credentials) in the summer window â say £3million Money made available from the sale of peripheral players â say £1million Total - £9.6 million Fees from the sale of any current first team players in the summer should be added to the above total. Please note that this question is not intended to be disrespectful to the Allams after they have invested so much in rescuing HCAFC. However I would like AP to tell the fans a definitive transfer budget figure and not something vague like; âmillionsâ or âWe will pursue the players that NB targets.â or âNick is happy with the squad as it is and we only envisage one or two new faces being brought in.â etc
Financial fairplay comes in next season so you cant spend more then your income. But there is ways of cheating the system which both us and Man City do. You put money into the club through the parent company and but it through as income rather then investment But no one will be spending stupid anyone like us and West Ham did this season
We shot ourselves in the foot in the summer by announcing we didnt have a transfer budget and we would spend what we see fit Clubs bumped prices up when we got involved and we overpaid alot. If you announce your budget the same will happen to you.
Agree with WHT. I think if anything, we will be told something like the examples in Craig's final paragraph. All of those things where we saved money could be cancelled out by all the debt/money going out over the last couple of years.
We will spend what we see fit but I cannot see us spending more than 3 million quid. The Allams deserve to re-coup some of their money so I wouldn't begrudge them doing so.
With all respect to the Allams I'm actually more concerned that NB has enough funds to get us promoted next time (if we don't make it this year) and the phrase "spend what we see fit" means nothing. What we saw fit in January was zero, does anyone think that was right?
From a selfish point of view, obviously the fans want NB to spend enough money to get us the calibre of player to gain us promotion. I meant NB will spend what he sees fit within the budget given by the Allams but I cannot see the budget being more than 3 million quid (providing we don't sell any of our first team players). I don't think January's budget should have been zero but either Allam or Barmby did and unfortunately we will probably never know the true reasons why no players were brought in
I think if we were planning on spending big at all it would have been in January where the transfer fee wouldn't have affected the financial fair play system. As such I can only see a few cheap/free transfers unless anyone leaves for a significant amount, in which case I still don't think well spend big anyway, and loans. Hopefully a permanent for Brady is on the cards but I'm doubtful of that this summer as he is an exceptional raw talent that could very well develop, so maybe another season loan.
I think it's fairly obvious what happened in January actually. There will have been money there or the Allams wouldn't have publicly announced it, and if there wasn't Barmby wouldn't be pleased and I'm sure was partly the reason why it took him awhile to accept the job full time. Let's say the budget was £1million as reported, Barmby couldn't get in anyone worth the money who we needed with that budget and didn't want to needlessly waste on anyone else.
He went back to sign an extended contract with Man U before he extended his loan, I have a feeling this was because they didn't want to lose him on a free/compo rather than him having a future at Man U. But yeah he could develop into a really decent player, although he's competing with Young, Nani, Park, Valencia and whoever they may sign over summer so I could well see us getting a chance to sign him.
Would be surprised if we spent more than £2-3m The aim of the summer will be to offload some more of the high earners like Ghilas once more
