Just spotted this thread on OTIB, a set of facts that make interesting reading, thanks to the OP for info ~

    Boston Red

    Posted 22 hours ago

2014/15 - 34 year old free transfer who had scored one league goal in the last three years. 43 games, 21 goals.

2015/16 - Ivory Coast nobody from the French League with a dodgy wrist. 48 games, 20 goals.

2016/17 - Teenager from Chelsea who had never started a league game or scored a senior goal. 48 games, 26 goals.

2017/18 - Lightweight out-of-favour youth team midfielder stuck in the reserves. 52 games, 21 goals.

2018/19 - (?) Right winger from Derby with a poor goalscoring record. Derby fans say he runs around a lot but can't finish. 6 games, 5 goals.

MONEY PAID OUT. 5 million pounds.

    MONEY RECEIVED. 21-25 million pounds.

Fantastic business, Bristol City Football Club.

All we need to learn now is how to keep them down at the Gate. Interesting!

Don't think that will ever happen, we are a selling club, always have been, always will be, that's part of why the managers job is so difficult.

All clubs are selling clubs , we are no different. The one time we did hang on to players we almost went bankrupt due to giving them ridiculously long contracts we were never going to be able to honour.

Sorry not all clubs are selling clubs, that's how some clubs get promoted, last time we didn't sell our best players we won promotion and won a cup.

Good business for you guys and makes interesting reading. You do wonder how these diamonds were found as they seem to have come very much from the rough. Good scouting from someone!

As an aside, a 20+ goal a season player isn't often found in a promoted side. There are exceptions, but often the top scorers in the championship comes from a mid table side.
More 20 goal a season players don't get promoted than do. More teams get promoted without a 20 goal player than with.
    Strange.....

Think what he's trying to say, is the time when you don't sell your best players you go on to win things...Like we did with Cotts in League 1..

Didn't we sell the leagues top scorer from the previous season that year?

usually if you have 2 forwards capable of scoring around 15 or so goals you are in the mix, usually need a midfielder or 2 to score 10- that's 40 goals or more, with maybe another 10 or more from "others" = 50 or more …. you are in the mix, usually
    ( for the pedantic … eg forward 1 18, forward 2 16, Midfielder 1 7, midfielder 2 5, ( others ) fullbacks 2, centre half's 6, wingers 6 ( so would be more in keeping with usual goals scored for above average team, 12th or better 60 goals +)

Our last 2 promotion seasons we've had top scorers of 9 and 10.
As you say JG. Better to share it about.

Sorry I confused you Ashton, I was trying to say the difference is, when we didn't sell our better players we won promotion, so when we stop selling our best players, you never know we may get to the premiership. Saying that yep, I think we will still be a selling club, our young left back may be the next one LK.

Yes , you are right , we sold Baldock (not sure he was the leagues top scorer , but definitely ours) & used the money to buy the players that lead to us getting promotion and win the painpot cup, if my memory serves me correct.
