.METRO WEB REPORTER - 9th July, 2011 0..Spurs star Jermaine Defoe in £5m swap deal with Sunderland's Asamoah Gyan? Sunderland's summer transfer spree could be set to continue with a swap deal involving Asamoah Gyan and Jermaine Defoe. Related Tags:Asamoah GyanSteve BruceDavid Vaughan.. (Pic: Getty) Spurs chance?: Gyan could still yet leave Sunderland (EPA) .It has been reported that the transfer could cost Defoe's club Tottenham Hotspur £5 million. However, it may still be a possibility with Spurs said to be keen on Sunderland's record signing and Defoe having found himself surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane. Steve Bruce has already brought ten new players to the Stadium of Light this summer, with recent free signing David Vaughan the latest to add his name to the roster. Keiren Westwood, Seb Larsson, Craig Gardner, Ahmed Elmohamady, Rory Deacon, Connor Wickham, Ji Dong-Won, John O'Shea and Wes Brown have also been added to the squad at a cost of £30 million, while Darron Gibson and Charles N'Zogbia could be set to follow.
No thank you Mr Redknapp, the only way I would go for this is if we got Kranjcar as well. Otherwise Bruce has just undone all of his fabulous work so far this pre season. I my opinion Gyan generates more than just being a forward, he seems to have a swagger and is always smiling. Just please keep him Brucey.
I would put my house on Gyan being a Sunderland player at the end of this window. As Sunderlad says, selling him would undo all the good work Bruce has done. Not saying we will never sell Gyan just not yet. Its a non story, either put in because they needed to fill space or Harry is trying his destablizing the player trick with the help of his friends in the media again.
Not a lot to say really, except iv'e been saying it for weeks.. Would not be suprised one bit, if it happens, but it's got to be the right deal for the club..
Of course he'll stay for another season. Look at it from a purely business angle. He is what, 25, 26? He cost us £13 million. In his first season, without a pre season and even though he missed a part of the season through injury he scored 11 goals. Next season he will be fully fit and fully prepared and I think he will comfortably double that 11 goal tally. How much is a 26year old, 22 goal a season striker worth in the current climate, £25, £30 million? Now lets look at Defoe. He is 29, he is probably never going to play for England again, his best years are behind him and he is going to want a long contract. Yes he can score goals but given his age his resale value will be very low. Business wise it makes sense to hold onto Gyan for at least another season. His resale value (barring a massive dip in form or terrible injury) is only going up whereas Defoes is only going down. Gyan for Defoe is a non starter.

Print This Comments (8) « PrevNext »Another report today links Spurs with Sunderland’s Asamoah Gyan, though this time Sunderland are being suggested as the prime movers. The Daily Mail suggests that Sunderland are keen on Spurs striker Jermain Defoe and that manager Steve Bruce could be ready to offer Gyan in part-exchange. Sunderland signed Gyan from French side Rennes last season for a fee of £13 million but Bruce would be prepared to get his money back for Gyan whose season tailed off towards the end after a promising start. Defoe is valued at around £8 million by Spurs and he is one of three players Sunderland are interested in along with Roman Pavlyuchenko and Peter Crouch. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is reported to have asked for Gyan last month as part of any deal that would see Crouch go to the Stadium Of Light. Gyan said at the time he was flattered by the link with Spurs although he later told reporters in Ghana that he was fully committed to Sunderland.
I like the METRO, although a free newspaper, it tends to give a decent read, and so far as I know they have never been sued by ELTON JOHN, their journalism tends to be factual, probably obteined from Roiters [ spelling ] this having been said, we are still in the gossip and speculation areas of the transfer window, my feelings are of keeping Gyan, would be sorry to see him go, and Defoe does not set me on fire, at all. a bad exchange all round for me. but as I said before, too early in the window.
