I keep hearing that the quality of the SPL will be poorer without Rangers but is this really the case?

Let's consider that it's very likely Rangers will be without their top stars: McGregor, Davis, Whittaker, Naismith, Lafferty er al. will be leaving, for a reduced fee or nothing at all. Now consider that Green is willing to do a deal with the SFA to have the transfer embargo put back in place (as opposed to a more serious punishment). What kind of team are Rangers going to be fielding next season and the seasons after that?

It's going to be a blend of has-beens like McCulloch, never-has-beens like Broadfoot and 17 and 18 year olds.

Are we really to believe that this team will be any better than the likes of Dundee Utd, Hearts and St Johnstone? Or even Dundee?

Take Dundee Utd as an example. 29% of their in come is from TV revenue.

No Rangers, no SKY deal (as it currently stands) and TV revenue is cut. As Rangers learnt, if your income doesn't match your outgoings you're ****ed. Biggest outgoing is player wages. Cut wagebill, top players at clubs **** off to English lower divisions. League is poorer quality as all you are left with is the average players. This again devalues the league so that attendances fall due to watching a poor product, advertising is therefore cut and any future TV deals will be impacted.

Celtic will also be impacted. Why would Celtic spend millions on better players when there is no challenge to them in winning titles? Aiming for the Champions League is a risk.

Exactly the same scenario would apply if Celtic were in the gutter.

    - Who's to say clubs like Dundee Utd will be worse off with a new TV deal? As it stand, most of the money goes to Celtic and Rangers. No Rangers means a bigger share of the pot for the other clubs.
    - With Rangers fans threatening to boycott away gives what incentive is there for these clubs to vote NewCo back in?
    - Say a NewCo is allowed back in, you will be a shadow of your former selves and, therefore, you could argue that Celtic don't need to spend millions either way. So what incentive do Celtic have to vote you back in?

I can see where you are coming from T but as yet we don't know if Sky will pull the plug if Rangers are made to start in Div3, who knows they may want to cover Rangers games, after all, the Gers fans will still pay to watch. Anyway, it's all ifs buts and maybes at present so we cannot know until we hear from Sky.

If Celtic have to cut back on spending then I can live with that, Celtic have practically zero chance of winning European honours anytime soon so what harm would it do to concentrate on bringing through our own players like Lyon and Ajax do?

It was Rangers overspending and hiring overpaid players who led Scottish Football down this path, it was not their intention to ruin Scottish football but that is what they have down by inviting everyone else to try and catch up.

I want Celtic to be succesful but i'm a realist, Scottish football is at a watershed moment, and as far as i'm concerned if Rangers are not denied straight admittance to the SPL then the game is truly corrupt and would be better off just packing up and giving in, it would be a disgrace decision to limit punishment an affront to natural justice. And that's the essence of my argument, this is not about vengence beacause I hate Rangers or ****e like that, I don't hate Rangers, I just want to see justice prevail.

As there won't be a pile of twats hinging aboot our bogs smashing things we'll save a mint on maintenance which could be invested in the team.

    correctamundo.

Still don't understand rangers fans logic in that the SPL/SFA and other clubs are out to get them. If they get voted back in everyone has done rangers a massive favour, and cheated at the same time, but they still plan to boycott away games next season. Why?

Mind you considering they took the SFA too court for going lenient on them, nothing would surprises me.

to a degree t is tight but we dont know what sky are going to do, how any other tv deal could be structured, and how other clubs might have to downsize due to poor season ticket sales if they do vote in newco

its a bit of a guff situation for the "small" clubs tbh

When faced with a lose lose situation, do the right thing. That way at least you can hold your head up high and not be ashamed. Psychosomatic is right when you make excuses for corruption you're on a slippery slope.

What happens to the sky deal if they do get voted back into the spl but with sanctions like a transfer embargo and points penalty, and they managed to get themselves relegated to the first div. Has anyone else even contemplated it? Would sky then say right thats it we're outta here?

It's 14 days from the time the NewCo is formed so should be two weeks from yesterday.

With regards to the TV deal, what's the chances of Sky working out a reduced deal to show the top SPL games AND Rangers (home?) fixtures in whatever league they're in (assuming they have back-to-back promotions as predicted)?

A quick little cash boost for Div3 sides and a bit of damage limitation for the Rangers fans who don't desert newco. <ok>

SFL are a separate entity to to the SPL. It wouldn't be a joint deal so any deal for the SPL is better than the one they already have...which is none.

Now that Rangers don't exist any more, it really is a great opportunity for Scottish football.

It is believable apart from the smile on the face of Jim White.
