With all the names being bandied about of players we would all love to sign. Which ones stand out for you and who would you realistically like to bring in? I think essentially we will be looking at freebies. With so many good names being let go, I'd stick all my transfer budget into the wages and signing on fees. I'd like to see: Darren Ambrose Sean St Ledger Zak Whitbread Emmanuel Frimpong (Big ask) Wade Elliott Most of those names have only got 2 seasons left in them, but that's enough to get us out of League One and establish ourselves in the Championship for a year. I'd of liked Eagles on this list as well, but his wages were reported at 30k at Bolton! Sign em Cotts!
Would be very nice, but I cant see someone of his class/ability coming here. Plus he will want too much money for us to afford
Sorry, just edited it to show I would have loved him, but don't think we could afford him! Should have signed him up the first time! 1 million quid man utd let him go for, we should have snapped him up then, as well as Adel Taraabt for 1 million, missed opportunities.
Jobi McAnuff has been released also, quality player. 32 yes but would be a great signing. I'm just having a look at all the players that have been released and there are some great names available, especially at this level! Mikele Leigertwood Ebanks-Blake Stephen Hunt Scott Loach (not released but is leaving) Jermaine Johnson (meh) Keith Southern Liam Feeney
Not sure SeB would drop to League One, he wouldn't with Wolves... Some good names from a few years ago, Jermaine Johnson for example, but at 33 and his game largely being about pace, not sure he still has it anymore. McAnuff might be a shout, but I'd bring him into the centre of the pitch now, as I think width wise, we need to bring Burns and Bryan through. Good professional though.
My usual pick is Freddy Adu. He's young (apparently), is very creative, is a free agent, and will probably play for peanuts. He's also desperate to play in England, and was recently on trial at Blackpool. He's a bit of a jet-setter, but for a team like us he can either excel or leave, so at least we'll be confident in the knowledge that if it doesn't work out he'll leave. Additionally, he apparently brings a ton of money in from the yanks in merchandising, which could be a good thing for Bristol City. Chris Eagles would be a great signing, as would Frimpong.
Matt Derbyshire? If we're looking for a keeper Marek Stech at Yeovil is out of contract and has looked a good keeper in the few times I've seen him play.
Would Matt Derbyshire drop down to League 1? I remember watching him at Olympiacos and he was absolutely phenomenal there. If he were willing to jump down to League 1 I'd drive him to Ashton Gate myself. Him, JET, and Baldock up front would tear the league apart.
I'd be surprised if Derbyshire didn't stay in the Championship. Another big wage as well. This is why I think we will mostly bring in released players around the age 30 mark, because they will be a little bit more affordable wage wise. Stech would be a good backup, hell of a performance in the playoff final a year ago.
Think this guy could be a useful addition. No chance of getting him and wages would be an issue. No harm in asking though? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27386066
Wouldn't want either. Maybe Markus Olsson as he is still a decent age but I would imagine he would still be on Premiership wages so there is no way we could pay what he would want
Are you thinking of Martin Olsson, Marcus barely played in the prem, only a handful of games and will be on far more modest wages as he is a reserve player.
He has to be one of the biggest overrated player. Man U are about to become second rate to Man City and Chelsea. You mention Rooney who twice threw his toys out of the pram and threatened to leave. Then they offer more money and he says it's always Man U he loves blah blah. And I have no jealousy to them, they have become a tourist attraction now.
