Bristol City boss Lee Johnson admits he is ashamed after Nottingham Forest defeat

Fans are losing patience after watching their team sustain a club-record-breaking eighth straight league defeat this afternoon.

Beaten 1-0 by fellow Championship strugglers Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, the Robins remain two points outside of the relegation zone.

But they have failed to register a win in the second tier since December 3 and supporters are steeling themselves for a prolonged battle for survival between now and the end of the season.

City are down to 20th place in the table and pressure is mounting on head coach Lee Johnson, who desperately needs a win to turn around a wretched run of form.

Ben Osborn's superb 67th minute volley was enough to give Forest a victory that moves them five points clear of the drop zone and eases some of the pressure currently being felt by owner and chairman Fawaz Al Hasani, who was the subject of a fans' demonstration before kick-off.

Johnson is also feeling the heat and he admitted losing a scrappy encounter on the banks of the Trent was frustrating.

With reference to the record losing run, he admitted: "I'm ashamed of it. I spoke to the players about making history for positive reasons earlier in the season and now we have made the wrong kind of history.

"I've told the players that they've done that and they now need to do something about it. We all need to do something about it and we need to do it quickly.

"I can come out and tell you I'm hurting, but people don't want to hear that. Words are cheap and we have to dig in and fight to try and end this run and climb the table.

"We're not in the relegation zone yet and we have to be mentally strong and stick together. I'll grieve for the next 24 hours and then get back to work and plan an assault on the FA Cup (at Burnley next Saturday)."

To make matters worse, City lost midfielder Gary O'Neil and right-back Mark Little to groin and hamstring injuries respectively.

Just found this on the forest fans forum which sums us up
"Thought Paterson was the best player in a truly ****e B/City team"
    Harsh but fair.

I don't agree about Paterson. He was ****e like all the rest, bar Flint perhaps - and the new keeper.

that was a well rehearsed piece of set play football ....

illusions seem to be the point at the moment... when the onset of hypothermia strikes the victim often removes clothing ...don't ask me why... but maybe the brain is trying to say something ..like get ready for the undertaker!
grieve for 24 hours ... so he believes in life after death!!!! ... he should have the whole squad on the pitch at AG PRACTICING how to score and defend ...
    ps
what was the new keeper doing at the other end of the pitch .he needs to learn to stay in his own box .. a bit gung ho in his first game.. but all round reasonable I believe

Talk about cliches, I just wish he would stop.

    (1) 'With reference to the record losing run, he admitted: "I'm ashamed of it. I spoke to the players about making history for positive reasons earlier in the season and now we have made the wrong kind of history.'

    (2) "I've told the players that they've done that and they now need to do something about it. We all need to do something about it and we need to do it quickly.'

    (3) "I can come out and tell you I'm hurting, but people don't want to hear that. Words are cheap and we have to dig in and fight to try and end this run and climb the table.'

You can't argue with anything he s saying
Its the actions that are at fault not the words/

The problem is Lee is not inspiring his players to produce match-winning performances. The coaching staff must all take a long hard look at the way this squad is trained, because something about this smells of dead fish.

It seems to me that Lansdown needs to either sling them all out, or bring out the hair dryer (and not for the players)

Lee's comments rub the fans up the wrong way, and you can see on here the effect they have. One has to assume that the players and management / board are visitors also .... Hi ! and they most likely have the same effect on them?
    its basically:-
    we lost again
we are trying to rectify it
we really miss LUKE I will need to play him ....
we have a cup game coming up and a chance to gel further
thank you for staying with us.....

I will get slaughtered for this, but feel sorry for the guy.......trying his best, still seems to be not far away with such narrow margins but concede it's not good enough...
If he's still in the job I hope he sorts it out, but fully understand if he's given his marching orders because the results speak for itself....
I still have a big worry with who might replace him......if it's another cheap option, the fear of safety will remain..

Spot on really. If he goes, we must get the right replacement.Reckon it needs someone with experience. Can't see us getting Pardew or NP though.Adkins has been mentioned by is another who seems to talk a good game.Appleton is a name mentioned before but easier to go for someone out of work.Rowett,I am not quite sure about.

Totally agree - he has tried and he loves the club, but I'm afraid we can't be a charity - being a nice bloke isn't good enough.
I don't hate him - but I hate what is happening. It needs to change or we will end up back in division 3.
It's still div 3 to me.

I'm sure he is trying his best, but it's not been working for a long time now.

As the saying goes, a miss is as good as a mile with results, and losing, even by the odd goal, is still losing however you describe it, and it sounds like we got what we deserved on Saturday anyway which was nothing.

And a big no to Appleton. He's a L1/L2 Manager at best. I just really hope that Mark Ashton isn't his best mate..........

Usually there are a string of managers looking for a second chance.........I don't see anyone decent, do you? Who would you put in?

    I honestly don't know.

I guess Rowett might be a contender if he was interested. He did more than an average job at Birmingham and with limited funds.
I wouldn't want Mick McCarthy regardless of whether he is/isn't sacked by Ipswich. Too old, and seems to be less motivated every time he's interviewed.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink did nothing whilst at QPR. Curbishley has been out of management for too long. There are loads of has beens and under achievers.

Other than that it would depend on who applies and perhaps more importantly, how transparent the owner/board are with telling anyone who has/had applied. Which they probably wont be.

Dean Smith has done a decent job at Walsall. Simon Grayson has done a very good job at PNE ?

I think it's of paramount importance is to get someone who has managerial experience at this level or the equivalent standard abroad were we to go for a foreigner.

The only one that seems possible on your list is Rowlett but if I'm honest, doesn't fill me with excitement!! Maybe we need to look abroad.....but again a massive massive gamble...Think we are in a bit of a dire situation....unless ole SL wants to dig deep in his pockets and tout one from a bigger club!!

If I were an owner, I'd be very tempted to only give my manager a year contract at a time - it's fairly rare they're poached by bigger clubs and you'd save a bundle when forced into the position of sacking them.

This does raise a good point though, in that when sacking a manager, even if it is probably what's necessary, you do need to think about who's actually going to come in. Remember a few years back when Wolves sacked Mick McCarthy and then ended up appointing Terry Connor?

In the absence of any news, I guess that LJ has taken training today and that no changes are planned.
It still wouldn't surprise me to see us win at Burnley, we were in a similar boat before and nearly beat West Brom up there.

More importantly is the league, I dont see us getting much change v Sheff Wed so the Rotherham game becomes huge.

So forgetting the Cup for now, and assuming we lose to Sheffield Wednesday and then beat Rotherham....then what ?

I think nothing would happen in that scenario- The expected from the next few games would happen I fear, leaving us in a very vulnerable position. By the time the Villa game had been played there would only be 12 games left- I fear it might be too late by then

And I think that's the real danger here, even though by then it will be just 2 wins from something like 15 league games stretching back to October last year.
I cant see us getting a sniff at Derby or Leeds which are the games straight after Rotherham.

Then it's Fulham at home followed by Newcastle and then Villa away. Scary. Really really scary.

I wonder if we could tempt Cotts back to help us romp League One again.
