So after Llorente put in yet another performance which can politely be described as "giving as much of a **** as a constipated tortoise without an anus" we find ourselves back at the question we've been asking for at least three seasons: who the hell do we have as Harry Kane's understudy?

So I put it to you, Not606ers...

We need someone that can hold the ball up, but is still mobile and energetic.
Llorente's good from crosses and set-pieces. He'd probably do well with a pacy striker alongside him.
We don't cross the ball much, our set-pieces are **** and we've got no pacy strikers.

I’m either in the Sterling camp, or an option you don’t have.

“A premier league striker at another club”

    I.e Rondon.

That’s presuming we’re not gonna go for another striker from a foreign league because:

    A) they’ll be too expensive

    Or

    B) We’re incapable of getting the right one.

Said it awhile ago, we need a Thomas Muller type that can start in another position and then play striker when needed. We kind of have that with Son and I wouldn't mind seeing us give it another go until the end of the season. After that I don't know, what's Damiao up to?

I would go for a Shane Long type.
He works hard and would create ... Rondon is a good shout imo. Llorente barely moves so anyone playing alongside or just behind him is negatively affected.
Our style is based around closing down from the front. Long does this but Llorente, Soldado and Janssen don't which is why they failed.
Defoe is a bad idea in my opinion...he is 36 now and other than coming on for 10 or 15 mins he will not be of use imho.
No idea about Stirling or the other non spurs players mentioned as I haven't seen them play.

Firstly, you need somebody who realises and accepts that’s he’s gonna spend most of his time warming his arse on a bench.

Once you find some options who are content with that fact, then you can start making choices.

Shane Long fits and possibly Rondon.
I thought we should have signed Long when we signed Janssen.
And before @Citizen Kane pipes up about my transfer suggestions I just wanna say

    SHUT UP CK <grr>

It's only been about three and a half years now that I've been saying Shane Long would be a good signing for us. Back then I got bullied for suggesting it! <laugh>

Can't believe some have voted for Janssen getting a second chance, ****ing hell, guys, has Llorente been THAT bad that it's made you forget that Janssen was also ****?!

EDIT: So obviously I voted for Shane Long but I'm also very much in the "Give Sterling a go" camp. We've tried it all, a player in their prime (Soldado), a player on the up (Janssen) and a player who's achieved a **** load in the game (Llorente) and yet all have failed. Maybe looking closer to home is the best bet. Ironic in a way, that perhaps the best player to support/ compete with the guy who came through our academy to become a world star, is indeed another player to come through our academy.

I reckon Javier Hernandez would be perfect to nick off the Spanner’s but his wages are no doubt out of our reach.

Good pace, quick feet, great in the air and could bag a few. Much rather play for us than at that small time club or the MLS as being suggested.

Long has looked ****e for a good 18 months now. I'm also not remotely convinced by Rondon.

We should monitor Jay Rodriguez' progress for the rest of the season. I'd say the same about Callum Wilson.

Others of course will favour a move for Samir Nasri. But we don't mention that.

Llorente would be a decent plan B option if we ever used it, unfortunately we almost never play to his strengths and go more direct, we don`t put enough crosses into the box and when we do it is usually a poor effort from a full back. We need another forward more suited to plan A for when Kane is missing, somebody able to slot straight into the way we play. If we are going to play Llorente, then at least play to his strengths more.

I voted for Janssen. Looked a decent footballer to me. Scored goals in the past and a lift in confidence should get him to the level we need.

This is what Llorente does best. It isn't what we do. There is no fit between the two, so continuing to go with Llorente is pointless.

I can't see a way back for Vinnie. Maybe, if he'd gone to Brighton, as the club wanted him to......maybe? Not now.

If Sterling was ready, we'd have gone with him already.

We're gonna have to buy another one.........Oh God.

  19. Crouchy anyone?? <laugh>

At one time Charlie Austin would have got my vote, but a combination of increasing injuries and disciplinary issues rules him out.

Running out of options to be honest.... Maybe keep Llorente and come up with a game plan that might actually fit his style of play? I can't remember a single cross played to him yesterday and the general quality of free kicks and corners was even worse than normal. <doh>

If he’s happy to play second fiddle, my vote goes to Rondon.

If the baggies go down, which it looks like they will, he should be available.
