Its universally agreed that Chris Powell is the nicest man in football....The 2nd must be Mr Tisdale of Exeter. Always a gentleman,always honest in his press conferences,he`s the Gerald Harper of league managers. His latest press conference after yesterdays game was another example of why he is another Mr Nice to go along with CP. No ranting and screaming about "that goal" said he couldnt see and if it was in these things happen in football you have to move on. Top bloke can you imagine warnock in the same situation...chalk and cheese. Paul Tisdale top bloke his sides always play attractive football he has done an amazing job at Exeter and I really hope they stay up.
Agree with this Mike, but I think the loss of Cureton may be decisive - unless they can bring in an advanced midfield player or a forward with his nippy characteristics, they're going to struggle. Their players were neat and the passing precise, but it was a bit like watching the Monty Python Spam Sketch at times.
I disagree Tewkes. From what I saw yesterday they have more than enough to steer clearof the drop zone. If they can get Rowan Vine firing off half the cyinders he had prior to his injury nightmare he'll be a massive player for them.
Were we watching the same game AllHell, we struggled to break down a nine man defence but once they weent down to ten men their only concern was not to concede. If Nardiello hadn't pressed the self destruct button they would have played more openly and we would have had more opportunities than those we did create and didn't take. At some points they had three players on Waggy and defended as if their lives depended on it. It is an old adage that is often more difficult to play against ten men and the fact that we managed to take proper advantage of this on Saturday was testament to cool heads on the team. I do believe that Exeter are fundamentaly a good team who should stay up this season particularly with Vine and Nardiello playing well. Tisdale is a sound manager at this level.
Scratching, for the first 15 minutes of the second half, I thought that Exeter were as likely to score as us.
Sorry Franco - bit p****d when I wrote this. I didn't mean they were going to be relegated, just that the position they finished in last season and some of the excellent results they achieved against top teams will be more difficult without the movement and flair of Cureton. The players were too 'samey', barring Vine, and they need a couple to be really sparking to back up their work rate and neat approach work.
Shows we are all pessimists at heart AllHell. I had my heart in my mouth for the first fifteen minutes but we didn't do that much wrong and in retrospect they didn't look as if they would score and it was only my natural pessimism at the timee that made me think that they could. Hindsight is indeed a wonderful thing so long as we don't wear rose tinted specs and I binned mine long ago!
Something we haven't had enough of over the past few years! Maybe we've forgotten how important they are?
dale stephens.... dont know how someone can be kwolity one week and dusty the next. so fickle. ive now seen the replay of his miss against wednesday. whilst not great, at least he is trying to put it in the roof of the net. i think that shows inherent confidence in our dale. funninly enough, didnt take long for him to get another chance and he buried it
He's actually my favourite player. We've been crying out for a creative centre midfielder who can get stuck in - and he hasn't disappointed (me, anyway). Plays some acute balls which don't always work but then nor does Andersons or Nasri's etc. It's just when that ball works, you'd like to think the strikers will bury it. He brings something to the team that no other player can IMO.
