I don't think any Scots really thought they would get something from Spain.

That was Spain's "second eleven". What would the first eleven have done to them? It just shows how much wider the gap has become; and that there's something fundamentally right about the way the Spanish grow, and train, their young prospects, compared to the way it's done in Britain.
Unless we learn some lessons - fast. The gap will continue to grow.

NSIS that has been the problem with British football since 1966.
When we won the WC we thought we played the best football, actually everywhere else set up special academy's we only stared to catch up in the last 5-10 years and we are now very far behind.

To be fair to scotland/britain i think the gap between Spain and everyone else is quite large.

I'm always pleased to see Scotland lose, but they are such a comedy outfit now, I merely quietly smile and remember how their hatred of the English team has come back to haunt them, rather than celebrate full on, like I used to do.

There's only one of them any good at that. And he nearly always comes second!

Love watching them lose. Hate them, especially after the A.B.E. T-Shirts they made.

  14. But at least with the tennis they are in the running, ahead of England.

With football, they have forever been, and will always be, in our shadow.

I'd have thought Ramos, Pique, Puyol, Busquets, Xavi, Pedro, Villa and Silva were all first 11. Casillas rested for Valdez isn't much of a weakening, I'm not sure who their first choice LB is and with Iniesta out(injured?) I'd say it was pretty much a first 11.

Scottish football as a whole needs a total revamp.
The league's **** and they're not producing anything like enough youngsters now.

They should look to the Dutch example, in my opinion.
They can't compete financially, so they should concentrate on their academies and export as many players as they can.
The league would benefit and the national side would improve dramatically.

A lot of it comes down the the usual formula with the Celtic nations failing to qualify:
Incompetent Referee + Cheating Opposition = Stay At Home Next Summer

Ireland had Henry's handball, Scotland have Rezek's dive.

  18. The trouble for Scotland is that most teams place them in the "easy win" category, along with the likes of Andorra and San Marino.
