I've gone with the yes vote, I realise there will be a lot who have decided against him but with financial constraints I can't see anyone coming in and working magic, relegation would be a massive blow to me but I think he needs time. Leeds best years were under Don Revie 1961 - 1974 the first 2 years were dire. recent management changes at Leeds since 2013,Warnock, redfearn, McDermot, Hockaday, Milanic, 5 names in less than 2 years and where has it got them, sometimes you just have to support the team and the manager and believe.
There is a lot im not happy with but its not all PTs fault. Some of the blame lays with the cycle of the football management merrygoround and modern football. Something i saw and cannot now find was a comment about Luke Rooney and what he would have been like under MA. Meaning to me its also about having the right personalties to make things gel. Does PT have the ability to make things gel...welll at the moment he is making a pretty poor job at it but to the question is he the right man for the job?...i say let him live or die by his own sword...meaning if we dont change him no one can blame anyone else if we go back to league two...if we stay well then we survive for another season at no exyra cost of broken contracts.
Wow, I'm astonished to see so much positivity from Forum Gills fans! Have we finally shaken off the unrealistically high expectations from Gills being in the Chanmpionship 10 years ago??
You want the 'high' points of Gills' history 11th August 2001 ( opening day of the season ) Gills in the Championship Gills 5 Preston 0 ( top of the league ) The following season 13th August Gills 1 Derby 0 .....Gills go top 17th August Gills 1 Millwall 0......Gills stay top It's been mainly downhill after that.
I know alwaysright, I was at that match (Gills 5-0 Preston)!! Best Gills performance I have ever seen. Even Marcus Browning scored. TWICE.
And yep.....Taylor finally got us there after Pulis left the season before. Gotta stick with Taylor at the moment.........it would be a tough season for us (even tougher) if he left now.
I am in the no camp, just think that Taylors defensive football generates a negative attitude both on and off of the field
"Recent weeks have seen Eddie Howe's Cherries surge up the table, only six years since they started the League Two season on minus 17 points for exiting administration in an incorrect manner." Lifted from the BBC Sport page on line this morning. A similar sized club to Gillingham with a smaller catchment area. What are they doing right? What is their business model? These are questions that deserve answers rather than the simple 'knee jerk' of "Manager out" cries. No manager has a magic wand but a sound management and business plan for the whole club.....not just the team is an answer. Note!! I did not say 'The Answer'. Many questions........ I would be very interested to know how Bournemouth have attained this level of achievement......where once we were.....on the back of a promotion gained by.....PT. Yep....I am a concerned fan but not one wanting to jump from the frying pan......
I posted my thoughts 3 weeks ago I dont want hessy either , enough is enough OUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT lets try and salvage something out of this season
As the only person to have voted no last time (at least I think I was the only one) I could come here and gloat, but that is not my style. I am not happy to be right, but I did warn that I felt we were stagnating under PT. He did the job of stabilising the club after MA but I feel it is time for a fresh ideas.
BSG........but you have posted to gloat and say "I told you so". If you hadn't, you wouldn't have posted. As a club we are in a very difficult position. Taylor has a long contract......costly to end. We have the 'Sword of Damocles' hanging over our head with the FA charge. The team is doubtlessly under performing and the crowd (such that it is) is getting restless. Pardew until recently was a total pariah at Newcastle and a couple of results later he is the new messiah. The supporter is by nature a very fickle animal.......under Hessy we played some good football but were always that bit vulnerable and we just missed out on the play offs two seasons in a row. Most teams in League Two would have taken that as as pretty successful.......I bet Barnet would have taken that if offered. A few games into the new season under MA having just won the league two Championship it was 'Off with his head...' because we had not 'smashed' league one. Good managers are out there......outstanding ones are not...hence the continual merry go round of the same names playing musical chairs with the clubs. Very few from the non league or lower league back ground go on to make the grade in the upper levels. Pulis was an exception......how many others can you name amongst the 90+ clubs in the league. Plucking famous names out of the sky is not helpful either........a successful manager at let's say (smile) Rotherham in the Championship are not going to swap that job to come to Gillingham.........they wouldn't even bother looking on the map to see where we are! It is the same with builders.......if, when you want one they are available.....then they are not good enough, for all the good ones are taken So....at present we are a bit stuck and to use the words of the old Supertramp track ......'he's not much of a manager, but he's the only one we've got'..... Lets get behind the team a bit and hope for a bit of a run........fundamentally, ensuring the team has a defence and does not leak shed loads of goals is always a priority in building a team. Not always pretty but effective and provides a spring board for further development.
Windyrog - I'm not here to defend BSG -he is big enough to do that for himself - but - I respectfully submit that the current situation with the Club is as much to do with the boring negative tactics, (as it is with our league position) - even when we go 0-1 in matches - where if you don't try to score you can't possibly hope to win. I believe that fans have no real problem if we lose a game - as long as we have given some decent effort in trying to go forward. I am afraid to say that Taylors tactics rank as some of the most negative I have seen us play.
Always......I'm not defending PT, I'm trying to be realistic and or pragmatic towards our current position. Also no disrespect to BSG.....a sideways tongue in cheek response which I am sure he half expected following such a post!
Ahhh... You saw past my façade Windy, I was gloating a little bit. I partially agree with your assessment of the current crop of established managers out there, PT is probably on par with most, but things are not currently working so I feel the club needs to take a risk and twist rather than stick. Yes the established managers available to us are all much of a muchness, so why not take a chance on an up and coming non league manager, hungry to prove himself at the next level? I know the reaction of some... Gasp we did that with Stimson and he was worse than Satan himself! But was he really that bad? OK he pissed off a section of the fans and got us relegated from L1 but he also did get us promoted (which was more than more loved managers have done for us) and the performances in L1 are more successful than what we are achieving currently. Also remember I said someone like Stimson, not Stimmo himself so hopefully it will be someone with better personal skills. I fear we are going down if we don't make a change do what do we have to lose?
go back to August and we suffered 2 defeats, 4 - 1 and 4 - 2, clearly we needed to tighten our defence, we seem to have largely achieved this as since September we have lost 6 games most by just 1 goal (Scun Thorpe being the exception which was dreadful) 4 of the games ended with a 1 - 0 defeat. So having largely cured the defence, how do we now get the midfield to push forward in attack without leaking goals again, strikers can't do it all alone and need other players drawing off defenders in the box to give them room. I think this will come naturally with confidence and support (support is where you applaud and sing but not heckle) we have a young team that are learning their trade and will continue to improve as they play together (having a settled squad without injuries would help) I think that if we can keep faith and continue supporting this team it will reap massive rewards for the future, we could always go back to the last payday has beans and look for success this week with no thought of next, I for one reckon we should hold our nerve and get behind the players, manager and club.
I understand your view point Grumpy and you make a lot of sense but I think you are wrong on the influence of the crowd on the performances; it is not the heckling of the fans that is making the players sit back I fear it is the tactics employed. It is the old fear of failure thing, the players are too concerned with defensive duties to take a chance to try and create a chance or score a goal. You are right that we have tightened the defence but that has come from a very destructive midfield mentality, so they are always looking over their shoulders defensively rather than pushing forward; this is a tactical decision from Taylor and I feel it i holding the team back. Yes we have a young squad, yes they will improve but I have my doubts Taylor is the manager to get the best out of them
Its bit of a Catch 22 situation at the moment. Priestfield can have a very good atmosphere when we are playing well. When we aren't playing well then you notice it to be a much more quieter and depressing place. The run we are in is making it worse as less and less people are going to home matches expecting to get a good result, not because of the team being worse in abiliy than us, but that we have had a very good home record in the past. Now if we are paying badly, fans myself included, tend to think more with their wallets these days which is fair enough because of the current financial climate. Now people are less likely to want to spend around £20 for a ticket to not be entertained of see poor football. If the team was putting the effort in then yeah ok it can be justified, but at the moment Taylor's negative tactics have meant that we don't go all out for games and as result, have only won once in our last 12 games. Now I still love the club and of course I want us to do well, but I'm not going to throw away money by going to Priestfield if we are playing poorly and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person with that attitude. Attendances have gradually started to decrease and we're struggling to even amass 5,000 at the moment. Now less people in the stadium means less matchday revenue for the club, less matchday revenue for club means we can't sign players to help strengthen the team which ultimately ends in poor results. Too many poor results ends in relegation and the club missing out on extra revenue from the football league and sponsorship contracts. Seeming as we've only really just got financially stable, we really cannot afford to get relegated because it will mean even less attendances. Just for the club's finances point of view, it will be cheaper to sack him now, than it would be to continue to have poor results and potentially get relegated.
So let me see if I've got this right....you want to sack PT which involves a pay off.... then bring in someone else who will want money for new players....everything so far involves money yet with all the love you have for the club you won't be going to games....so where is the money coming from, let me guess that if this happens you would start going again but if not you are happy to see the club you love collapse.
